Does anybody else not like listening to most announcers (color guys mainly) during football games? There are a few that I like, but mostly I don't really care for them. Most of them played football and know the game, but it seems like they are too busy trying to just talk about what's happening that they don't really say anything. I realize it's got to be hard to watch a game and talk about it at the same time, but since I started coaching it seems like I disagree with what they think happened on the play, or it just doesn't make much sense. Maybe it's just me. Sorry for the rant.

I do like Todd Blackledge (CBS) and Bill Curry. On a side note, Curry may not be on TV much longer as he is up for the A.D. position at Georgia Tech.
I see your point on many others though.

I turn the sound down. I don't really care what they have to say because a vast majority of the time they are wrong, and or just trying to be controversial/opinionated when all I want to do is just watch the game

call me a nit picker, but I do not like when tv announcers try to act like they know the game.
a darw play is a draw play and not a inside zone play. vern lundquist used to call every run play a draw play.
I know, I am nit picking here. still, get it right.
now contrast that with bill curry on espn. he gave like a 2 min presentation during the game on zone blocking.

Most guys are just trying to explain very basic concepts that joe fan don't exacly understand, we as coaches are kind of on a different level as far as knowledge, so joe fan isn't going to see when color guy explains something wrong, but we as coaches are going to see it and be annoyed with it. I don't pay to much attention to color guys. The only thing I like from them, is the occasional tidbit or funny story from their playing days when its in the context of the game.

Phil Simms is probably the best color guy right now...another guy who I was really impressed with was Jack Ham. I was listening to the New York-Carolina playoff game on the Westwood One radio network last week and he did a tremendous job.
Tony Siragusa is horrible.

I agree wildcat. I like Phil Simms the best. Most of the rest I cannot stand listening to, including Madden.

While we are on the subject, in the college game I like Mike Gottfried and Kirk Herbstreit as color commentators.
