For you Texas guys (I know there are tons of you)....
Is this guy(or athletes at QB for that matter) for real?
I have watched him the past two years and have been nothing but impressed with his development as a quarterback. He's a mixture of a great mobile QB with good throwing ability.
With you guys that see him regularly - is he a legitimate QB (for the pros)?
Has the abundance of athletic QBs from Va. Tech / Auburn / Utah (Meyer) / and Texas that go beyond the Option game, but more so on his arm - affected the way YOU look at the position in YOUR program (and development of future QBs)?

Thats a good question Brophy. Another year under his belt in college might make him a legit pro QB. A year ago most experts would have told you that he was going to be a pro receiver. I got to see him multiple times when he was in high school since he played in the district next to ours. We knew then he was special, but few thought he would be a Heisman candidate. It will be intersting to see how he does next year at Texas.

I can tell you that 2 years ago, I was the OC at a school and we turned a running back into a QB. We ran the spread and what we did was get him where he could throw the Fade, Slant, Rail, Sprint Out and Screen game to perfection. He threw for over 1800 yards and rushed for a little over 1300 yards and was the District MVP. So to answer your question, if I am running the spread, I am looking for an athlete who can do what I detailed earlier. I don't think the days of a traditional pocket QB are gone, but I think in today's HS football, to turn a program around quickly, coaches are using the spread and putting their best athlete at QB.

i think he is developing into a fine qb. he really had a breakout year with his passing ability. as far as program evaluation, i think players like vince make a coach sit back and look at where he can put his best players on the field where they will get the ball in their hands.

he does have some mechanical flaws. don't know if the arm can be fixed at this point in his career. not as concerned with that as i am in his foot placement on some throws - especially crossing routes.
