Looking for practice schedules from programs that run what I would call 1-1/2 platoon. OL and DL are separate entities but all the skilled kids are "best we got".
Trying to find a practice schedule that has everyone involved for the duration.
Thanks!!

This is how we have ran our one and a half platoon practices.
Monday
Warm Up - 10 min Special teams – 15 min
Offensive individual – 10 Min (Skill players to their offensive group) OL and DL working in separate indy groups. Offensive Group – 10 Min - Blitz Pick Up - DL serves as a scout team against the OL and FB (Rotate Backups as needed) 7 on 7 for the other skill players (We try to rotate FB’s through 7 on 7 and blitz pick up)
Team Offense 10 Min. – DL and skill backups serve as scout team (Rotate Backups as needed)
Defensive Individual – 10 Min - (Skill players go to their Defensive Groups) OL and DL get another Indy period
Defensive Group - Set Rec – 10 Min - OL and skill player backups serve as a scout team (Rotate backups as needed)
Team Defense - 10 Min - OL and skill player backups serve as a scout team (Rotate backups as needed)
Tuesday (Offensive Emphasis Day)
Warm Up - 10 min Special teams – 15 min
Offensive Indy – 10 Min. Same as Monday
Offensive Group – 10 Min - Inside Run (9 on 9) – DL and skill player backups make up the scout team (Rotate backups as needed). During this time we have enough players so that WR’s can go 1 on 1 vs DB’s as well.
Offensive Indy – 10 Min
Offensive Group – 10 Min. - 7 on 7 / OL-DL 1 on 1’s or Blitz Pick Up – Skill players will work 7 on 7 (Same as Monday) while the OL and DL will either work Blitz Pick Up or 1 on 1’s either Pass Blocking 1 on 1’s or what we call “Pods” which is basically run blocking 1 on 1’s.
Team Offense – 15 Min. (Same as Monday)
Defensive Group or Indy – Depending on what is needed. – 10 min. If it is Group then the OL and Skill backups serve as a scout team. If it is Indy the Skill players go to their defensive groups and the OL and DL have their Indy time
Team Defense – 15 Min. (Same as Monday).
Wednesday is a Defensive Emphasis Day so just take Tuesdays practice and flip the offensive and defensive parts. Thursday is a walk through.
We do this with a roster size of 30-40 players and 5 coaches on one level. We use a full time OL and DL coach. The OL and DL coach also run the scout teams. We also have a QB coach, RB/LB coach, and a WR/DB coach.
This is a rough outline of what we do for a one and half platoon practice. It has served us pretty well and I think we do a pretty good job of limiting players standing around.

So, do your skill coaches coach two positions?

So, do your skill coaches coach two positions? Yes, we have one coach that coaches WR and DB's and the other coach coaches RB's and LB's.

we are very similar to ndcoach. HC did it that way for the last 3 years. I know this wasn't the question but had to put my 2 cents in.
Having full time OL and DL worked at first but I think it had some drawbacks the last 2 years.
1. last year we had no tights ends, they all were on the D-Line only group. 2. On D-line we played less talented kids because they were D-Line only and the DL coach wanted to start "his" kids. 3. I think some kids acted like jerks or didn't try during Offensive days just to get put on D-Line only.
A lot of this had to do with coaching and what they were aloud to get away with, I just wanted to put it out there so maybe you wouldn't have to go through the same growing pains.

We've been 2 platoon for 10 years. We have over 100 kids 10-12gr.
We are 20 deep in both lines.
From there we only have about 10 kids that are what I would call "need to be on the field all the time" players.
Playoffs is when it hurts the most by far. Winning league championships with full blown 2-platoon offense defense specials is just fine for our league. When we get into the playoffs and 2-3 games into it, we have serious match up problems that hurt while we have players that could be out there.

We platoon everyone, except those that MUST go both ways because they are difference makers. If your goal is to go further than 2-3 games into the playoffs, then you might have to use more 2-way players, or at least use them in the money zones (when the ball gets in the red zone on defense or when you're backed up on offense). Once 2-way players start getting most of the playing time though, depth usually begins to drop as some players get discouraged in the long run, at least at our school. It's kind of a Catch-22 in a sense. That's why we Hybrid Platoon or 1 1/2 platoon, but opposite of how you guys do it.

Ya I think back and our biggest issue was we had a lot of lineman that first year, this past year we were real thin. We started 2 sophomores all year and our center was 5'9" 170lbs. There is a program near me that I've been meaning to get more info on their practice schedule. I do know they 2 platoon and separate the practice schedule into 3 colors. Offense, defense and the 2 way players. Then during practice they build in periods for the 2 way players to get practice on both sides of the ball. They usually have 3 or 4 that go both ways, before last season we had talked and he was going to have 10 to 12 and I asked if they would change from 2 platoon and he said no way.
