I got spoilt at my last stop as we had a dedicate equipment room manager -- local guy on disability that had nothing better to do than sit around all day and take care of the wash, helmet changes, equipment issues, etc..... We never had to worry about checking every white uniform to make sure it was clean before we run it through the dryer because he took care of everything.
Now that I am back to a place that the ACs have to take part in the wash is to take one of his ideas and make my life a lot easier on Friday night after a road game played on a wet/sloppy field and I thought I would pass it along.
When your kids come to turn in their unis, make 2 piles: -those that played -those that didn't play
The ones that never saw the field would still be pristine and could washed, dried, and put away. The ones that played, especially on a sloppy field would need the extra care.
The messy uniforms: -Use some type of pretreatment -- SHOUT, Spray n Wash, etc... on the bad/stubborn areas -Run the soak, extra rinse cycle -then check these to see if any needed to be sprayed again and rewashed.
It saves a lot of time to pretreat the bad ones. Usually the ones that need a second/third/etc... wash was in the single digits.

One thing I would add, we do alot similar to coachwoodall here, but when we get the sloppy uniforms washing, we stop the washing machine when it gets in the wash cycle and let the uniforms soak overnight, then come back the next day and finish. This seems to help and prevents us from having to rewash as many. Another key is dont overload the machine!
