Could you pick it up and mail it back to me. We are sitting at 2-3 and are two last minute field goals from 4-1.
Missed one Friday with less than 2 minutes to play against the number 2 team in the state and probably our biggest rival. Got beat 33-31. Sucks and I'm still fighting it.
I haven't watched the film yet. Went straight to the next game. I gotta grade'em at some point though and I'm not looking forward to it.
On top of that, 'Bama can't seem to find a running game and we aren't far enough along to be throwing the ball 53 times and expect to win.

I feel the Exact way about the Ducks, 6 more inches and they would have beat Cal.

The hardest thing to do is learn from your own mistakes. In chess, (I know, I know, don't beat me up but it's a good analogy) when I lose a match in a tournament, which by the way means having someone else out-think you (which is even more humiliating because you have no one to blame but yourself and your lower intellect), you have to go over your games and find out where you went wrong and what you should do differently next time. Blunders that you have made are especially hard to go over but finding out why you made them or why you got off your game plan are essential to not repeating the same mistakes or what triggers your brain farts during games.
It's really hard to do but to get better, you have to. Don't play another game until you do. I'm sure i'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but just trying to reinforce your priorities. Suck it in, watch the tape. Yesterday.

I don't know where to start!
I'm a Duck fan for life so that game was a killer, and then I spent Friday night in Gainesville watching the Gators CHOKE! Tough day.
Friday night was much worse as we dropped our second straight game - this one 49-14! In the first quarter we gave up a fumble and 2 BRUTAL picks (all 3 lead to TD's) while also forgetting how to tackle! We scored 2 quick ones in the second half - great halftime chewing out - but then gave up a long pass and a punt return for 6. Boy was I low as this was a team we should have played with.
Post game I spoke with our 6 leaders and was very pleased that they were upset, blaming themselves (lack of focus and leadership) and vowing to do a better job. I told them that I, and the other coaches would do the same.
Next I met with our coaches and after letting them share their hearts ( and in one case, bitch a little bit about MY leadership and playing calling) before telling them we would talk more in the morning.
Had an excellent film session Saturday AM and then worked out. After the workout we talked some more before we left. Also let the one assistant - new to our staff- that I appreciated his candor, but the play calling was not going to change. Spoke with everyone again today (by phone) to make sure we are all ready for practice tomorrow as this week we get to play the #4 team in the state!
If I don't hold it together then the assistants can't do their jobs and the players are left hanging. For deaux68, me, and the rest of you guys, keep working hard and trying to get better. Coach em' up!

FBdoc--just a word from someone who was also "the new guy" on the staff the last few years (and no longer on the staff..or profession any more ) REally take his critique to heart.. and let your own ego go to analyze the situation. Of course, i do realize that my case was the exception (had coached div 1 college ball and had been coaching for 12 years at various levels) and that many times the new guys don't know enough to know they don't know anything at all... BUT sometimes the new guy might be right.

Hey Ted..I was at the game..did you hear us on TV yelling.. You know it..you tell the story.. You tell the whole...etc.etc. etc Chant 50,000 disappointed fans haha. Was an awesome game on both sides of the ball. Oregon is good. Cal is good. Should be fun to see them take on SC ..both have home games vs the Trojies.

Well now, it just gets better! Our QB broke his finger, throwing hand of course and is out for Friday. Our Fullback has sore knees - he's also our starting FS and leading tackler (that alone tells you what our defense is like ) so Friday night is looking ugly. We are putting our no-huddle on the shelf this week and going with a huddle to try and work the clock. The reality is without a passing attack - backup is a freshman who was starting at WR and/or our JV QB, another 9th grader with a good arm but very short - we are in deep doo doo. We will fight the good fight in the spirit of the Black Lions but we definitely need everyone's best this week. I've only had one other season like this - bad combination of injuries and a very young team - in my career and I can tell you, It Sucks!

Sorry to hear that fbdoc, but unfortunately I know your pain firsthand....we are on our third QB now....numbers? had 65 sign up, 40 show up and now have 24 left, and have had between 4-7 starters out per game due to injuries or inelligibility.....but as they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...

we had 25 to start year. lost 5 starters on offense and 4 on def. to injuries and our best player, literally on every thing, quit last week. have pulled some frershman up but we they have a game we have 16 at practice. how do you get ready for teams that go to the state finals like that? lost another one for this week. so for this game missing 7 starters on off and 6 on def. from week one. how do you get through the season?

That was my question on a similar thread. What can you do? This is Another great thing about this board - just writing this stuff down and getting it off your (my) chest seems to help. This is what we're doing and I'm sure jhanawa is doing the same thing - coach the kids who are still out there, coach em up, focus on small victories such as each individual battle, getting a first down, holding them to less than a 5 yards on a play, ANYTHING you can make a positive. Oh, here's my latest ... my just promoted to varsity man-child LB is being suspended (and I'm the Dean of Students!) for his 3rd behavior offense of the week. It just never stops! Having said that - I'm going to go coach the rest of em' up!

Yep, always something to build on, something to improve. The 23 kids who are left aren't real talented but they have won our last two games now, they've pulled together and improved with pride and effort. We now have our original QB back from a broken hand, so we have gone from our air attack being grounded to being able to throw it again. First game back was this week, he went 13/20 for 3 td's/0 ints, what a shot in the arm for our offense to be diverse again... Yes, I'm now officially happy again...LOL

I left a great teaching gig for football reasons. I brought my wife along too. She was happy with her teaching gig as well.
Football is now great. I will be a much more justifiable hire as a first time hc coming from here as we are doing good but will not make the playoffs like I thought we would.
Teaching for both of us sucks out of the wazooooooo though. Really bad. Ridiculous in fact.
I soooo wish we had won one game to give us a shot in the playoffs.
Oh well. Gotta move on.
