Coaches, this is something that I've been thinking about recently, and I wondered how others process this idea:
Is your practice personality (the manner in which you conduct yourself; interact; speak; etc.) the same as your game personality?
If it is the same, what is your reasoning?
If it is different/modified, what is your reasoning?

My personality doesn't change.

Mine is the same. If I'm calm in practice and I'm just the opposite during games, the players won't respond. It doesn't pay to put on an act during games.

I'm the same. Pretty animated, energetic, and intense.

I'm the same. Pretty animated, energetic, and intense. Me too. It has changed a bit thus year though because I have been up in the box this year, so I'm not quite as "intense" as I would be on the sideline. I created a bunch of charts to fill out to help me remember certain things in the game, but also to keep me focused and direct some of my energy. Plus I have less time to say things that would get me in trouble with the home crowd

I am about the same. I might focus a little more on Friday nights but for the most part everything is the same. We have a strange practice scenario so I try to get on the board with the kids (offensive line) immediately after our first few drives to discuss alignments so during that time I am a little animated and energetic.

I sometimes feel like I have to be the same intense guy in games that I am in practice, and it gets draining.
When I try a more calm approach, the team thinks that something is wrong. Usually, nothing is wrong, I may just be focusing on something.
Any thoughts on finding a "happy medium?"
Is the only solution to alter my practice personality in hopes that it translates to game day? Or, am I stuck?

We have a strange practice scenario... A little insight on this, coach...

I'm generally calm at practice and games. I get excited about big plays in both.

We have a strange practice scenario... A little insight on this, coach... Well we really are only on the field about 70 minutes a day. We don't do too much scout team or anything like that. More warm up, a little individual offense, maybe some individual defense, special teams, team defense and then team offense on air.

I'm more nervous at games but outwardly I'm the same. I think you should be so the kids see that you are calm when you need to be.

What you see is what you get. On Fridays I am in the box so do yell a bit, but is because everybody on the sideline keeps taking off their headsets.
I'm pretty laid back and analytical. But I I do keep the kids on their toes, by challenging them and making them think.
**As a side note, I call the JV defense on Thursday nights. I'm a little more vocal and energetic than on the practice field. However, it usually comes from getting excited about kids making plays that we have been working on during the week, and I am pumped to see those guys shine.**
***Another side note, several stops ago I was the JV HC. I ran the offense and helped on defense a bit. The other JV coaches were young too. I had a habit of carrying a bottled water and sipping on it when I was thinking/figuring, and would fold my arms with my chin in hand-- just my habit. About 2/3s of the way through the season, the HC made a comment to me after a game, "Ya'll are in the biggest game of the year and I look down the sideline and all the coaches are standing there with a bottle of water with their arms folded." I guess I rubbed off on the other guys.

I am much more animated and picky about technique in practice. During the games, I am not on the guys about technique. I am on assignment. I am more calm, more in control of my thoughts...

I'm definitely a little more vocal and intense on game days. I can't help it. I'm no peach when it comes to being a DC and an OL coach throughout the week, but there's definitely a bit more juice on game days.
