What are some ideas to get our program moving in a positive direction? We will be very young with only 2 or 3 seniors.

We just started football 3 years ago, and I am playing second fiddle to the basketball coach, who is detering kids from playing football, and I need help on how to get athletes that only play basketball out for football. I am also looking on how to motivate all of the kids to come to weight room.
There has not been football in the county for over 20 years, so most people have no exposure other than tv.

Make sure the kids are having fun, if they are having fun they will come. Offer them something that basketball cannot. Every high school in the US fight to get kids out for their program usually from the basketball team.

My best recruiters are the kids already in the program- they know what is at stake and that higher numbers will help them win. Treat these guys well, and they will do the work for you. I tell my kids that we are just as committed to them as they are to us.

Best way to recruit athletes from within the area and outside the school:
If they come to practice each day and work hard, GUARANTEE to play them in EVERY GAME, whether on JV or V, regardless of the score or outcome.
Some kids will only play 1 or 2 plays per game but it will mean the world to them, their friends and family.
This has done wonders for our program, and I have done it every year of being a Head Coach.
Nothing but Upside from this.

KB if your going to do this than I suggest putting them on to special teams that have a lesser effect on the game AND they are the funnest to play in my opinion, these are PAT block and kickoff return I'm not saying that those 2 are unimportant I'm just saying that is usually where people put their scrubbs |
