What do you do with kids who should be starters but are late in getting physical forms/appointments and so on?

Tell them to go to a chiropractors office and get it done that day Or go home
Our official start date is Monday August 11 If they aren't at practice and able to practice on August 13 they are done

First of all we treat it as an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE so they get the punishment that goes along with that. They go to the bottom of the depth chart and if they don't have it by the 3rd day of practice they miss the first game.
Usually we don't have an issue with this as we do sports physicals during the last day of school.

Usually we don't have an issue with this as we do sports physicals during the last day of school. I love that Get it out of the way ASAP Our problem is someone here in NorCal decided to have a set start date for football And a yearly date for physical validity Physicals have to be dated on or after July 1 every year and are good through the school year We have a set date in August we can make it mandatory (this year August 11) So we have from July 1- August 11 for our kids to get physicals ... Big window but it would be easier when kids are in school We bring a local DR in to do them for $20 one date before Aug 11 (for football) And one date after (rest of fall sports) We also have a chiropractor that's across the street who does them for $20 The biggest pain is the kids who want to go to their Dr or kaiser for physical... Takes forever for an appointment when they could get it done here ASAP We have a couple every year who cry and say they can't pay And I'll usually give them the $20 and make them clean my classroom or locker room to work it off

This is killing us right now. We have 5 kids who could be important contributors, but we still haven't gotten physicals or insurance cards from them, plus we have about 3 others who are missing them on a roster of 42.
So far, we're going to give them until Friday as a cut off date. If we don't have them by this Friday, we clean out their lockers for them and take them off the depth chart. If they produce a physical later they get to come back, but we've got to send a message.

Private school, they have to have one on file to attend class, so we are lucky I guess. When I worked at public schools, if they didnt have one by the end of the week, they missed the first game.

practice this Saturday 6-8 am for no physicals, nothing but hills and tire flipping and conditioning, I had several on the first day, after I preached all school year, summer, meetings, they all have them now cause I said see ya Saturday 6-8 and bring your running shoes, if they didn't have them the next day it would have been sunday also, I do have a couple new ones that just registered today at school, I told them they have till Monday, but will still be at practice, the ones that don't have them just stretch with the team and then it is stand behind and watch the drills, they don't get any gear till it is done

We remind them at every Summer workout about having Physical-Emergency Form in before start of practice (two months' worth).
We have forms available at workouts.
Local MedExpress does them at reduced rate on drop in basis and gives $ back to us like a fund raiser (use it to buy Gatorade).
Bottom line - there is no excuse for them not to have it done before first practice.
If they miss practice because they didn't they are at bottom of depth chart and when they are cleared to practice, they get PIE (Personal Improvement Exercises) or MEDs (Memory Enhancement Drills) until they have made up Conditioning for practices missed.
We have very few if any problems in this area.

The winter and spring sports have it easy
We have a "health bus" that comes 2 days a week from September on... Low income school Many have no medical so this can provides a lot of medical help for kids they just had to sign up It's provided by the county they get pulled from class Go visit the doctors in there and it's all free
One of their services includes sports physicals
So if a kid just does winter/spring sports they can get it done For free On campus During the time they're already required to be there

In our state an exam done on or after April 15 of the calendar year is accepted.
You say you want to play Football, have four months to take care of this business with constant reminders and easy accessibility - and you don't?
How am I (or your teammates) going to trust you when it's 4th and Goal on our -2 in 4th Quarter and we're ahead by five?
Our kids know fastest, easiest way to pizz off the head coach is be late or miss practice.
"Life is about being where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there doing what you're supposed to be doing."
If you're not or don't - there are consequences.
It's like playing Golf - every shot you hit is good for somebody. May not be you.
Choices-decisions have same impact.

We do free physicals in April every year. We make all our kids get it then. Its usually a few days before spring practice starts. We had a kid transfer in and the first day he had no physical, we had a coach run him up to the Dr and get one. 30 min later he's at practice.

Anyone remember the days of being in line, and hearing rubber glove after rubber glove being slapped on? "Turn your head and cough."
I don't ever remember paying for a physical, though I'm sure my parents probably paid something. Nowdays, our school charges $35 dollars (cash) if you can't get into see a doctor. And God forbid if you didn't make your appointment back in April...good luck getting in now.
My wife waited 2.5 hours at Patient First (the 7-11 of the medical field) to get a $10 physical for my son.
What to do with those kids? I personally didn't bust on em too hard. Bigger fish to fry. I was more worried about them getting in the required practices in order to play week 1.
Much of the time, situations like this isn't the kid, it's the parent not making an appointment when they should have months ago.
