I know there have been a number of posts on here regarding which headsets are the best. I have been pondering a related question lately. What is the ideal headset configuration? We have a staff of 11, and currently have a 5 headset system. We are thinking about expanding it to 7 or 8. Has anyone had problems with having too many coaches on the headsets? For those of you who 7, 8, 9, headsets on game nights, what do you do to make it so that your communication is productive and not just chaos and chatter?

We have 3 sets of 2-ways. We've got our OC and WR coach on one, OL coach and JV OL coach on the other, me (DC) and the LB coach on the 3rd.
And a few years ago we had a set of 0-ways--a guy helping out wanted to look important and wore the broken set--hilarious.
Ideally for us would be another set that could be in on the D frequency but with our setup we get too much static.

I think 5 headsets are perfect for high school.
1) Head Coach can switch to offensive/defensive channels. 2) OC has set on sideline 3) Offensive Position coach in box 4) DC on sideline 5) Defensive position coach in box
Any more than that I think would be too cluttered. It's hard enough to think with the HC yelling in your ear "What'cha got? What'cha got?"

Depends on the coaches. We have OC and QB coach (in pressbox) on one frequency. DC and DB coach (in pressbox) on other frequency. HC has set that can flip between the two. We also have an offensive set for back up QB to assist in logging plays, and had an extra set for another defensive coach who was a pain in the neck. His set "broke" after two weeks.

It depends on the size of the staff. We have 8 coaches at the varsity level, with a 7 set system. We use Telex Legacy, a great system. We have the OC in the booth, with RB coach and WR coach who signal in plays on the sideline. Our DC prefers to be on the field, our OLB coach is in the booth and the DL coach is in phones on the field. I (HC) have the ability to switch back and forth - the Legacy system allows all radios to be on either channel, which creates a lot of flexibility in how you configure your system.
