Handling stats? How do you guys do it? Our stats USED to be governed by a local media tracker and/or we had a guy in the box doing ours. Now, our State high school administration has embraced (the past two years) a web-based database of stats (for any sport) for quick reference. Not every coach is using it yet, but it does help tracking / compiling your OWN stats as well as take a peek at what others are doing... www.statsandgo.com/sports/football/PlayerStatistics.cfm?view=Offensive&SortBy=RushingTouchdownsI still say "stats are for losers"....

We are doing the same in NJ. MaxPreps. Its good I wish everyone would use it but they don't.
The problem I have is the guy doing our stats is a parent that is up in the box and his son is a LB. When we looked at the stats a few weeks ago he was our leading tackle by a huge amount and he is not even our best defensive player. Our head coach brought him in as a volunteer coach a few years ago to help out. The players now that his stats are wrong and they know who does them. I feel bad for the kid because he is a great kid but his dad is making it seem like he is a D1 player but he's not even close.
How would you handle this. Another example why parents shouldn't coach their kids.

offensive stats for us are handled by the media (box score) defensive stats are handled by the DC (me). I'm sure there would be kids getting a butt load of tackles if I weren't doing this....as long as it's one impartial person, what constitutes as a "tackle" for Bobby is the same kind of "tackle" for Jimmy, it's all good. I figure I'm grading the film anyway, it's gonna take me a good 2-3 hours, so I may as well track the stats as well. (working on the 4th VCR / 2nd DVD player now....)

i am the stat guy for our staff. i chart our individual players and just the totals for the opponent. my report goes to a district statistician that compiles them for us. every once in awhile i end up doing our game for the chronicle. i've got a pretty cool chart that makes it simple, but its not on the computer. i just keep making copies.

we have a student keep the offensive stats for the game using a form that I have. Honestly, it's a pain in the rear. He doesn't do a great job at it, plus he's slow, BUT it's one less thing that I worry (too much) about. I take the defensive stats when I review the film, and give them to one conference compilation person. I can't wait until my wife takes over stats next year. it'll go a lot smoother than with this student. I have the play sheet if anyone is interested.
