Does anyone have special ideas they use with their teams for community service or getting the community involved? I'd like to get some ideas to use at my next job. Thanks.

One idea that I heard from Lyle Lansdell and we currently do as a senior class project is a Senior Senior Prom. You can get the varsity team and the cheerleaders to visit an old folks home and have a Prom/dance. They love it when the senior class comes every year.
I've also thought of doing a reading program at the elementary schools as well as a charity team event like MS Walk or March for Dimes.

Very good ideas! I like the reading program, that is also a way to get kids excited about your program as well!
I have alot of coaching friends who do relay for life and things like that...thats a great idea!

depending on the size of your district, have groups of three to six players volunteer one day a week at an elementary school. Work with the teachers to have the players work with the elementary kids in the best way that the kid sees fit.

I had our team go down and work at the community food bank. In 4 hours, your whole team can make a huge difference. They put us to work on an assembly line.
I would usually spring for pizza for the kids who came.
We did this in June and July.
