What equipment do you coaches feel that helps your program? From the bags that pop up with arms to the sled.It could be anything. I am looking for input for our D-Line but please post for any position.

I am a D-End coach and I use the "HOOPS" every day during individual. Reinforces wrong arming, reinforces coming off the edge, and it has a good use for footwork. I reccomend them.

Our D Line uses the big pop up bag a lot, which has been named Madonna for some reason - probably because the removable arms stick out front like big cone you-know-whats. What we use the most is our line of scrimmage tape - probably use it daily, as well as step over bags. Our 5-man mod sled gets used quite a bit also.

step over bags, hand shields, fore-arm pads (I think they're called lobster pads or something like that), sled, chute are used everyday..
we have a big bag that looks like a high jump landing mat- might actually be what it is- that we use practically everyday for blocking..Really helps the kids stay low and drive their feet.. Anything that gets them used to playing low is worth a shot in my book- and as far as I'm concerned, this has been the #1 thing we do to get our kids used to playing low.. We make competitions out of it- 2 guys line up and drive it for 5 seconds or so..Maybe left side of the line vs right, or juniors vs seniors- whatever, we just want to make a competition out of it.. That idea came from Tim Murphy at Clovis East- regardless of opinions on scheme- he gets his boys to play low & fast and I really think this is a contributing factor.. His boys always seem comfortable playing with their pads darn near the dirt..LOL

Hoops are giant hula-hoops that you use to practice an edge rush.

We use chutes and boards with the OL everyday and we are looking at having our shop class build us a trap chute to run our schemes from under the chute.

Hoops, Line chutes and step over (Agile) bags. That's about all we have/use frequently. We occasionally use: the two man sled and a big exercise ball for LBs.

As an OL coach I use the chutes and sometimes trash cans for spacers in pulling drills. We also have a chute without dividers and we use it sometimes, too.
Defensively, as the DB coach, I use the open chute for back-pedal drills and the trash cans as spacers for perimeter run drills and 7-on-7.

We use underclassmen for the equipment in most of our drills We don't use anything special--step over bags, hand shields, 5 man sled for cond. with OL, spacer boards. we do use a track landing mat for our one step tackling drills the "blue bag drill" as the kids call it. Thats about the craziest thing we use.

Is it freshman linemen for step over bags and wr's as hand shields? We use the fire hose, chutes, and 5 man sled daily.

Chutes, agiles, line spacers, trash cans, shields, a variety of sleds- 1 man thru 5 man, hoops, Juggs machine and next year we'll add two World post mount trainers and a Rogers "blaster". We also have 3 "crash" pads that get heavy use in our tackling circuit. Keep in mind at times we'll have all three teams practicing at a single site so it's important to be able to accomidate the needs of all or at least have enough equipment to provide some flexibility.

We use the Chutes everyday for both O-Line and D-line and I have a 3 man Sled with the T-Pads on it that I use doe D-Line. For LB's we use the Set-Over Pads everyday. I like the idea about the hoops. So does anybody know to make them if, so please send me a PM.
Thanks in advance!

Making hoops is super easy- buy PVC pipe and 3 connectors and glue together. You can trim them up prior to glueing based on how big a hoop you want. Not certain but I believe ours are 3 6 foot sections glued together (might be 8 though).

easier way to make hoops - garden hose with proper diameter. Safer - cuz if the kids step on they won't twist an ankle -and a little easier to store...

best equipment (IMO) is trash cans. You can stack them for skelly to represent defenders / DEs in the passing lane You can use them to represent OL to rep strength rec / formation rec / alignment / run-throughs (for defense) You can use them for front 7 rec / BPU (on offense) The last program was at, I brought 5 trash cans for drill work and recognition.....they ended up using them as trash cans and laundry baskets......(bullocks!) Agile bags are a close 2nd because you can do the same thing with them, use them as hand shields, etc.....

Trash cans are very useful- but you really do have to watch as they'll get appropriated for other uses if you are not careful.
There great to use for backs to cut off, you can do d-line punch drills (with the heavy duty ones) as they promote a low pad level- literally 100's of uses for them.
