We have a kid who plays runningback for us. He broke his ulna and radius his freshman year in practice. It was a bad break that was nearly compound and required surgery with plate/screws to fix it. He missed the rest of the year. The next season, his sophomore year, in game 2, he takes a hit on the same arm when he's carrying the ball. His arm swells up pretty bad. He gets it x-rayed and reveals that he has a small fracture. It did not require surgery this time as it was pretty minor, but by the time he was cleared to play, it was week 10, and he had failed for that six weeks. This kid loves football, and if he suffers another injury to the same arm, he is not going to be able to play anymore. This kid is a great athlete and he's got a lot of potential. He could end up being our RB1 or rotating in heavily. Anyone have any experience with any kind of forearm shields or protecting a kids forearm from impact. I was looking at Gronk's forearm brace and it looks like it would work. I know we could tape some of that hard plastic to his arm, but I'm looking for something he could get on and off fast.

this won't ne much help but,
when i first began coaching there was some company i saw at a clinic
they had a whole line of products... imagine under armour with something like fiberglass sewn in to it... real light weight, but really hard/strong
they made gear to protect different parts of your body one of which was forearm sleeves that i swear felt bullet proof
i remember thinking, man i could get these for all of our WR, they could just bring their forearm down on a DBs arms and they'd never get pressed again
i thought it was a great product but i never saw that company again
maybe something like this exists out there still
another thing to consider, itll sound stupid but in a pinch, you could use a soccer shin guard
the radius ulna is the tib/fib of the upper body... they are pretty hard and would probably do the job if the above gronk brace was too expensive

We had a kid play with a broken forearm. He had a hard cast, but over that we put a pair of thigh pads, taped them down, and stretched a big sock over it. Kind of a MacGyver job, but it worked.
