Hi Guys, I just want to take a sec to introduce myself to the board. My name in Shane Napier and have recently taken on coaching and German-American Football team in Bavaria, Germany. This is a brand new team entering into the lowest league come March. They contacted my by myspace ,of all things, about 8 months ago. When I first went to practice there were about 5 guys out on the field and nobody really had a clue as to what was going on. Through A LOT of hard work we have grown the team to 26 players and their collective football knowledge has increased tenfold. I am planing on installing a Spread Offense over the next few months. Not that I am a "fad/system" guy, but the spread plays to my team's strengths. I am looking forward to gaining some knowledge from the board here and I cant wait to get our season started! BTW .. I am not only the OC..but also playing MLB and possibly to HB/QB.....gonna be kinda tough. www.albertshofen-roughnecks.de/ thanks, Shane

Shane: Welcome to the board. Get in touch with the Vienna Vikings, they've been running spread under similar circumstances for several seasons now. They have a very good HC, Chris Calaycay, who GA'd for Tedford at Cal, and their OC, Takashi Atkins, will I'm sure be very helpful. You can reach the Vikings via their website: www.dodgevikings.com/vikingscoaches.htmlIn addition, I'll be in Vienna until July 2008, and you're certainly welcome to e-mail or call if I can be of any help.

Thanks for the welcome guys...
As of now there are only 3 coaches..myself and another American as oc/dc respectively ,and a former 1st league German player who is handling the linemen (O&D). Here is the scary part....all three of us are first time coaches...
there is going to be a fair amount of 1 platoon ball being played as the roster is 26 right now, but there is a constant effort to bring in new players. I am thinking that part will become easier once we get a few games under our belt, and the words spreads that there is a team in the area.
I only have 7 players on Offense that have ever actually played in a game before...all RB/WR's and one Veteran German QB.....that is the reason that I have decided to go to a spread...the way I see it, that playbook allows for us to put the majority of the "work" on our most (read "only") experinced players. Plus, form all of the tape I have seen there isnt one team at this level that runs anything near a spread.... Not one defense will be prepared to handle a no-huddle full on spread attack....well at least that is what I am banking on anyhow!!!
I am looking forward to working with all you here, trust me, I am gonna have plenty of questions along the way !!
Regards Shane Napier

Shane: If you haven't already, make sure you post an entry on the "Introductions" thread at the top of this section. Also have a good read through the more recent pages, you may be surprised to see how many other coaches on this board are in similar situations.
