Coaches -
For those of you who use a Jugs Machine, do you have a list of any particular drills you go through with them? We just purchased one for this off-season and I'm curious as to how others use theirs. Thanks.

Anyone want to buy a used one? We have one and it's been used about twice in 4 years.

Has anyone ever bought or built a cart for the machine? We're going to try and have our shop class build one so it is easier to transport to/from practice field.

Make sure you only use it when kids have helmets on. Those things can get it hummin, just ask Stewart Scott. Play around with it before you use it in live action. And don't wear a whistle around the machine when you are using it.
I did all kinds of drills at my last school with the juggs. Can do any catching/ball drills you do now just replacing a coach/qb throwing with the juggs. A few I did would be to have them stand 10-15 yards away with their backs to the machine, yell hit and fire the ball at them as they turn around. Distraction drill, routes on air, deep balls, form catches, rapid fire catches. All kinds of stuff to do.

we use it in our pre practice everyday to simulate catching punts. Our WR coach uses it a few times during the year for WR drills, same ones mentioned above.

We use it everyday for our DB and WRs.
The kids set up a cone about 8-10 yards away. Two lines. 1 player shoots the ball and runs to the end of the line. The player who catches the ball runs to the other line. We use this drill to work on cardio, discipline and catching. At the end of every sequence we do push-ups for each. drop. This allows coach to coach up each WR on their catches and not worry about shooting balls
Here's the different sequences (5 catches each player) all catches with hands, body catches count as drops Straight Turned right. Catch ball out if front Turned left High. Above head Low. Below waist Turn around. Back to machine, turn head to see ball and spin around when ball is shot
Competition drills Balls drill. - Running at machine. Contest to see how close they can get Speed drill. turn up machine see who can catch the fastest throw Partner drill. 2 players fight for ball Team concentration. Split into 2 teams each player takes a turn catching ball while the other teams tries to break his concentration waving bags in front o f flight of ball
Punt/KO return. Shoot the ball as high as it goes. Gets them to practice catching NFL height kicks

We had a local welder build a cart for it... I highly recommend this as it makes it much easier to move around. Our first year with a Jugs... I like it a lot for punt/kick return.... I'm not sure it has had an impact on ball catching yet but I want to see if it gets used in the offseason before I draw any conclusions on that.
