Over here in AZ volleyball is year round they have games year round. They call it club volleyball. I know other states are the same way. Why can't football do the same thing except 7 on 7 club? What do you guys think?

I think the year round club sports lead to specialization, and I am not for specialization. I want our players to compete in other sports. I think they would get sick of me if they had to put up with me year round.

Coach very good point. I'm at a small school and we can't hog athletes. It still tends to happen. You know how it works the football coach is supposed to push for all his athletes to play other sports and yet the other sports do not do the same. But maybe its not like that every where. MY WIFE COACHES THE VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND THE TEAMS THAT WIN STATE ARE THE CLUB TEAMS.

dhoop---Not sure how it is where you live, but here in South Louisiana, club volleyball teams are not comprised of the high school teams, but rather "all star" teams with the best talent.
Club volleyball is played at a MUCH MUCH higher level than high school volleyball. College coaches recruit the club scene, not the H.S scene.

I am fortunate to be in a location where we are still able to avoid, for the most part, the specialization movement. I worry about sports not being fun for those kids who are specializing. It becomes more of a job that they never get a break from.
How does the girls basketball team do at those schools who have the club volleyball teams? Do they share the girls, or do the vb players not play basketball? How about track and softball?

Superpower, you know good question I will check in to it. (b-ball) I agree with you guys, the more I think about it the more it seems to be a bad idea. I have a lot of players that don't play other sports because they just want to lift weights. I strongly encourage them to play other sports but no go. If I started something like this it would kill B-ball and baseball, and track. Not good. The big schools maybe could do it. Here in AZ the teams are the best players around combined on a team. But when there no town close to yours it usually the players from the same high school team. They try to stick together as much as possible. I was in Las Vegas at the coaching clinic and they had a huge tournament for the clubs. Most of the girls I talk to played on the same high school team.
