Coaches, I thought you guys might be interested in reading this message that I just sent to EBAY. I will let you all know how they respond. Ebay member "astonishingdeals" is scamming innocent football coaches by selling them playbooks that are all over the place on the net for FREE! He is selling many playbooks that I have on my own website available to download tottally FREE! Here is the address www.sitekreator.com/coachjnAll of us honest coaches on the net would really appreciate it if you guys could weed these scammers out! The coaches who dont know about the FREE resources that are out there in webspace shouldn't be punished for it by having to pay money for items they can get for FREE! The ebay member I mentioned and many others are making profits by selling playbooks that many of us honest coaches created ourselves! I thought I would make you guys aware of this problem and I really hope you guys and gals can take the time to fix this problem ASAP! I really respect the integrity that EBAY is ran with and I believe that to uphold this high standing the powers that be at EBAY must weed out those who are scamming these honest coaches!

I really wonder if these people could be punished by law for some type of fraud?

I used to go back and email people who bid on where to get those playbooks for free. Not sure if it helped since they can't really retract their bid without punishment.

doubt ebay can or will do anything about it. it is a shame but how many stolen tv's do you think are sold on ebay? i don't think some playbooks are gonna get 'em worked up?

Maybe not Huey but they will either have to ban me from ebay or keep listening to my complaints.

oh, i'm behind you coach. just saying it is a shame that people are selling these things. and, that ebay - when faced with other "issues" - will probably not have the same feelings about this as we all do. all we can do is spread the word.

I figured he was selling them just by the layout of his site. He did trade alot with me on one particular day but after that he wanted no part of it anymore.
Guess he got what he wanted/needed from me and was on his way.
I still get mails soliciting their playbooks (esmokeblitz and others) I just tell them if they want or expect money for these playbooks to take me off their list because their playbook isnt worth a dime to me.

There used to be a website run by a couple of coaches in Texas who were selling copies of all kinds of great and authentic playbooks. Grant Teaff of the American Football Coaches Association contacted them and told them that they were infringing on copyrighted material. The AFCA lawyers convinced the coaches to shut down their business.
Selling someone else's copyrighted material is against the law. I guess one could make an argument against selling off someone else's intellectual rights or infringing on patented material or proprietary material.
I enjoy collecting playbooks, but I don't need them to put together an offense or a defense. I enjoy reading what other coaches have done and in tracking the history and evolution of the game. I've seen some of this guy's stuff, I can see where it might be worth $1.95, but not much more than that.

I have posted this info on a couple non-coaching boards and I am utterly amazed at how "outsiders" are reacting to this. 1 person has even gone as far as to say he hopes the ebay member I mentioned sues me. People with good character get harder and harder to come by every day!

posted under 'rufus'....I feel like asking you if I can dance wit your dates, now.
There are some strong arguments on there - nothing is prohibiting these folks from selling the playbooks for profit.....although it does not help our profession, but certainly (as eBay is a testament to this) people will buy anything.

knighter, LOL Did you see this reply they gave you?
quote:
To sell and make money off something you did not create is a scam, plain and simple.
Statement from that site:
I sold a DVD on eBay the other day, am I a scam artist? I've also worked in fast food selling products I DIDN'T create, am I a scam artist? Better yet, have YOU ever sold anything you didn't create rufusjohnson? How do you judge everyone else? You are as ignorant or even moreso than EVERY POSTER who has posted on this thread.
THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS!

This site will not be a jumping off point to start problems on other site.
Nich, you know I am with you on this issue, and you talking about it on other sites is great.
We just don't need to use this site as a place to get prepared for invasions of other sites.
