Have a bunch of questions. I'm going to post them. If you don't want to respond online for all to see, ple ase e-mail me @ throwtherock@cox.net 1. Do you use numbers, words, or both for plays. 2. How do you communicate the play to your OL. 3. If you are words only, do you have signals for everything right and left, or do you put a direction call on it. Thanks, throwtherock@cox.net

1. We used just words no Numbers 2. The OL knew how to pass block based on the Play Group. We basicly had 3 groups of plays with 3 different protections. The Center had the ability to make a few calls at the line himself usualy on Run Plays. 3. All of our plays had a direction called ie. Rickey/Larry

I just use numbers (7-8 year olds) that I yell out. There are 6 plays in the no huddle offense. I'd get more creative if they were older.

We use code words. The OL gets set with their hand in the grass when the umpire sets the ball, and the play is signaled to the 6 skill guys and the QB calls out the code word and direction to the OL. Usually we have the play in with about 20 seconds on the play clock, then we check the defense alignment and either run the play or change it. I don't even teach numbers anymore, the line just learns the code word and knows what to do. The protection scheme is built into the code word. We use girls names for 5 step packages and the characters from the Rocky movies for sprintout. So we signal to the skill guys and the line waits to hear the code word.
For example a run: 27 counter (signals to skill) QB yells Cougar Lexus, Cougar Lexus we decide the smash looks really good so we make the change signal and the new play (smash) Qb yells Red, Red, Amy, Amy and the line knows the paly has been changed and we are now 5 step protecting. We then give the run it signal and away we go.

have done the no-huddle for quite some time now (since '99) and we've done it several ways: below are our "top 2" ways:
1) no wristbands all formations, motions, plays, protections, (EVERYTHING) has a signal formation signaled in -- rec's, back line up....ol moves to position along los & turns back to ball 1yd deep. play is signaled in -- qb tells play to ol, rec's get play signal now we can: a) run play...........b) line up, ready to run play but look to sideline for the go-ahead or a new play to be called...........c) fake like we are running the play THEN look to sideline for go-ahead or new play ** if new play qb will simply tell the ol and rec's have gotten signal from sideline as well. (example: "Gator, Gator, ... Blue 26, Blue 26" -- new play is being run....Gator was play, 26 told direction) ** can build in dummy calls as well (example: qb gets go-ahead to run play called but is told to make a dummy call: "Florida, Florida ... Black 20, Black 20" -- means nothing to OL (plus, rec's got signal to run the play that was originally called)
2) wristbands all players have wristbands formation is signaled in and all players line up. play is signaled in & qb echoes the number players check # for play to be run now we can: a) run it.......b) wait for go-ahead or new play........c) fake running it, then look ** if new play: "White 12, White 12" assume white is hot, then players look at wristband for new play (play 12) ** if dummy: "Green 9, Green 9" assume white is hot, then call means nothing BUT players still look at wristband as if finding the new play.

no wristbands is faster.........i like it the best but once you've been in a league for a while you've got to get more creative in your signals
with the wristband, you can just change out the inserts

In a no huddle offense, how do you call half field pass plays? Full Field Pass plays?
For example, if you want curl/flat on one side and smash on the other.
Then, do you have a different method for say the Kentucky Mesh?
Thanks,
P.S. Also posting same message in the Passing Thread.

with the wristband we had double calls on there. for example: play # 25 might read smash right / curl-flat left ....play signaled in would be play 25. qb pre-snapped which side to work then snapped ball and executed. have also double called as mentioned above then gave qb a right or left signal telling him which side to work.
