Just wondering, how some of you guys make your practice plans with having to share players. Being productive, but not making the practices marathons that drain players and coaches

We NEVER practice more than 2 hours a day. In fact we are now at 1 hour 40 min. each day because of the heat and humidity. The practices are divided evenly between offense and defense. Right now we go 45 mins. on one side, take a 10 min. break, then go 45 mins. on the other side. Our coaches only coach one side of the ball, but our players practice both sides and we do have some two way players.

Same here Split! Early here in the season we'll go around 2 hrs., but as the season progresses, we believe we can get more done in around 90 minutes (attention span and the fact we have almost everyone playing both ways) than if we tried to go longer.

i agree with these guys,
there is a point of diminishing returns for sure
overload can be an issue with guys going on both (and specials)

Coaches, can you give me an idea of what your practice plan would look like. we try to go Individual, timing with qb and rb, inside run, 7 on 7 then team. just woundering how you guys plan it.

We use players both ways. We have an offensive day and a defensive day. We feel that doing it this way allows us to get into more depth.

We also split up days its the only reasonable way I think . I split up our work days (Tues and Wed) into run and pass days working O and D on both. Now by run and pass, I mean that our indy time and group time will be focused on run or pass and team will be 60-70% of whatever that day is. I used to have just an O and D day but I felt that I wanted to show the defense the other teams O more than just one day. They seemed to remember more seeing it (on the field) two days then just everything thrown at them in one day.

We share about 4 starters. It's kind of frustrating sometimes, but there are certain periods that each side of the ball has to have their guy--you have to acknowledge that and build practice around that.

We 2 platoon practice. The coaches have to talk before each practice regarding how best to practice the 3-4 two-way players. For example, an RB/CB would likely spend individual period with the D one day and the O the next; same for other periods.
