assistant: too many to count for my very first job. can't really remember. took one after my first season but declined the job after being offered took 2 after 2nd year. not offered one, took the other 2 after that year. offered both, took one none for quite a while -- didn't apply for any other jobs. then 2 this past spring. offered both, took this one.
TOTAL = 7 i recall plus the several i had while trying to land my first job.
have not had any interviews for to be a head coach.....have not applied for any head coaching jobs either.

2 at same school...not good. someone mentioned not taking jobs where boosters are in interview. good advice. "pros dont run it" actually came out of boosters pres mouth.
1 at catholic school, good interview, i wasnt prepared but did ok...they are sub .500 with their choice over 3 seasons. told them id coach for free. nice people but asked if i had kids.
1 at city school, i thought i did well, AD called me "refreshing" but board went in another direction and they have been 2-18 ...im looking forward to another shot.
just interviewed for job that i had no shot at getting. college guy had job before the interviews even started. waste of my time. lame questions "what kind of teacher are you?" "how complicated is your system?"...constant interruptions by interviewers. lame. not a good experience. (they were 0-10 last year and i understand why) it was clear to me that they had no idea who i was, where i have been, what i have done or what i am doing and honestly i dont know why i got called in.
not qualified to get interviews for a couple of schools that have never had winning seasons. they keep doing same things and expect different results i guess. I just keep trying and keep plugging. someone once told me to "apply everywhere" and im taking that to heart. never know.
one thing that puts me in a bind is no college playing experience. most schools want that around here.

Interviewed for two head jobs, both small schools that were desperate. Declined both job offers. I will say this, it was an interesting experience being in the room with five or six people with different agendas in a room inteviewing you. Defintely a learning experience to go through. Someone on this board mentioned it before, if a booster club member is in the interview thank them for their time and walk out. I didn't like that aspect at one of the interviews I had. Had a bunch before I got my first asst. job, after you get that first job it seems easier to get a position the next time.

Lots of places around here have started having commitees with booster club people, and even kids on them.

Lots of places around here have started having commitees with booster club people, and even kids on them. I am not in favor of that at all. We don't ask the community for input on principals or superintendants do we? A committee of school personnel like Principals, A.D, Supt, asst. Supt, A.P.'s no problem, but kids having a role in your potential hire? Looks to be a CYA ploy to lay all blame on a coach if things go south and not at the feet of an administration.

i am interviewing for an assistant postion with a well respected wing-t coach. he sent me a no- nonsense email, then i called him at his request, we are having several sit downs i would imagine as hes very picky about who is on his staff. told me that hed rather be short handed (was last year at hs and jr high) than have to fire someone later (well, essentially thats what he said)...chemistry is very important. and yknow, im learning alot in this, i am now interviewing them...that is, i will ask for a detailed description on where they are taking the program and what their expectations are...i worked for two fellas that hired me with no interview and no expectations...think about that...i walk in and they say "its yours if you want it". lol.
from now on, i will only work with/for coaches who have a clear plan, easily communicated to their staff. I want to be sure they actually can be reached by phone or email (one guy always seemed to have his phone out of service???)...and i want to see my job expectations on paper before i agree to join the staff. its only fair.

I don't like it anymore than you do ogie. It makes it into a popularity contest.

Along with this, how many times have you been to Kinkos to get a HC packet bound and then sent off?
