The only time anyone other then a player wears a game jersey is the day of the homecoming game- each senior chooses a member of the faculty who has inspired or encouraged him in some way during his high school years and those teachers/staff member wear it that day and that night at the game. Other then that it's strictly players only period. I've never heard that one. I'm going to have to borrow that idea, but I have one question. How is it handled when more than one player asks the same teacher to wear a jersey?

While she isn't wearing a jersey, I doubt few people would argue with her calls....

We don't even let our players wear their jerseys to school on gameday. I will find one in the cafeteria or on a girl or one was forgotten at home before the game or someone spilled spaghetti sauce on their white jersey at lunch... We found a company in town to sponsor "GAMEDAY" t-shirts, polo's or whatever on a yearly basis and screen or embroider our team name with the GAME DAY inscription on it and our theme for the year. Much less head ache and stress on me.

I don't really give a flying squirrel what someone wears to school.

Dang it, how do you reply with the box from a previous post in your new post? To clarify my last post, about the VB jerseys. I don't care what someone wears to school as long as it is in compliance with school rules.

I think it is great to have the girls wear the opposite jersey on game day. If nothing else, they are supporting the team and creating school spirit. Go almost anyplace in the country, and football is the premier sports in HS. Let's face it, HS football and Friday nights are special. In some small way, I think allowing the girls wear the is their way of being involved with something special.
I played small school HS and coached small school HS in MN and at both places this is what happened. I have really seen no significant drawback from it. Yes it is possible that they may get a stain on it or lose, but you know what, then you just charge them for it and buy a new one.
Never did I have a gf who I handed my jersey to, but I always thought it was great to be able to hand out my jersey to one of my friends who was a girl. If nothing else, it meant that they were behind me and that they were supporting me.

In high school, our mothers were the only ones allowed wearing the opposite game jersey (game jerseys being a thing that is earned). The girls were allowed wearing our practice jersey. If we didn't have it back by monday though, we ran for it.

She can throw a flag on me for unsportsmanlike conduct anyday. I'd purposely committ fouls just to see her pick up the flag off the ground.
"JOHNNY...HOLD ON THIS PLAY!! HOLD YOUR MAN!!"

Even though I am as old school as they come, I believe 100% in allowing the players to have girlfriends wear the opposite color jersey in school and to the game. I want as much black and gold (used to be black and orange...and now they do not have girlfriends as we do not allow our boys and girls to intermingle at my place of employment) in the stands as possible. If that means next year I have to give 99 opposite color jerseys to our girls so that they can wear them to a game so be it. School spirit is a crazy thing man, and I want my student body in my colors and being loud. The more on the bandwagon the better in my book. If geting all in the school to support what we do takes me allowing them to wear a jersey to a game I have absolutely no problem with it. It is a jersey, and it can be replaced if something happens to it. These are HS kids, and we expect a lot from them, this is something too small to get worked up over IMO.

Surprised this is even an issue...I think that it is GREAT when girlfriends, moms, dads, favorite teachers, etc, etc wear the other game jersey.

We don't let the girlfriends wear the jerseys...too much drama (forgot to give it back, has glitter on it, perfume on it) but we encourage the mom's of the players to wear the jerseys.

I cannot believe that you guys actually issue 2 jerseys to kids at the beginning of the season. at our place you get your jersey and game pants friday morning at walk thru and you return them for washing after the game in the game.
thurday night you turn in your practice pants and practice jersey to be washed for the next week. I guess we are lucky as we have an equipment guy for the school. he takes care of all this stuff for all sports. they pay him nicely to, 6000 grand for the whole school year. he is the only one who has the key to the equipment room. he takes care of everything.
on friday you wear your jersey with a shirt and tie underneath.

Airman, you've got it made! An Equipment Man? We discourage the girlfriends wearing them but don't have a rule against it. Most of our moms wear them to the games with the Dads wearing them out on the field for Senior Night!

We had a fund raiser for homecoming last week that I'd never heard of until this year. We had a raffle before our bonfire and raffled off our away game jersey for the weekend. We are a small school and raised over $900 for our program. It was neat seeing the different people wear the jerseys at the pep rally, game day, parade and game. Most were parents or girlfriends but their were also teachers and fans that bought the jerseys. Now this is the Monday after -we'll see if there is a problem getting them back...

As long as the players understand that they are responsible for "anything that happens to or with the jersey" I don't see a problem with it. We didn't give it to them in high school (they wore our letterman jackets) and where I coach one of the co-op school's kids do it and the other doesn't.
I don't think it is a big deal either way.
The idea that it is some how not masculine to not let them wear the jersey is a bit silly though.

For all my years of play ball even in middle school and high school the girls always wore the other jerseys depending on the game day field, but it was always a pain in the ass when we did it tho because we always ran into a super amount of problems. and now being a coach myself i see the huge problems it causes such as
1. the girls summhow get them severely dirty 2. they lose them 3. they get destroyed and even 1 time our starting fullback's g.f took his jersey CZ they broke up the day of the game and lit it on fire and threw it on our practice field,, o course she repayed for it and even got suspended and had some charges thrown against her, thank god the media didn't find out or it would of went crazy around here. but the overall fact is things happen. i just think it helps with the school spirit but overall i don't think they should do it because all the problems it causes>>

6000 grand.....wow...a cool 6 million for equipment. I want that job. the head coach makes 5500. remember, the equipment guy works all school year for his money and is in charge of all the sports. he is a great guy. takes care of everything from washing, to fixing equipment. the only thing he does not do is take care of helmets and shoulder pads in the off season. he just has too much to do with all the winter sports.

i would think a very simple rule would work well. say #55's girlfriend loses the jersey, well #55 has until thursday to get it back or he does not play.

i find it ironic how some are upset about girls wearing football jerseys but no one minds calling the girls "rotten crotch?" these girls are peoples daughters. i don't know how many of you have daughters but i would hate that my daughter is being called "rotten crotch" because she's dating a football player and or wearing his jersey.

airman---and then if you lose the game because #55 didn't play, just keep in mind that YOU created the scenario and environment for that to occur. (obviously I dont mean YOU, I mean the coach in question. )
