This week we were doing our youth camps and blam the HC/HS said we were to now run his offense and his defense. I plum got pissed off. I had spent 7 months scouting and putting together my greatest collection on the diamond-t spent allot of money on it too. Two weeks before we suit up I have to redo everything that I had done. Never the less I now have to tell my son who has been running all summer pulling sleds, eating right that he isn't going to get to carry the football he is going back to center.
During the week I was mad, as I started to think about it and mull on it more was I mad that I had to learn something new... nope I am always game for something new.... was I mad that I had to run the spread type offense... nope I won the league and had the only undefeated team in all the age groups with the spread... what was I mad about. OMG I had become a daddy coach, as hard as I tried and as hard as I kept saying it wasn't true I was that guy we all hated. Put his kid in a position of glory to fell good about himself.
How long had I don't it? was there anyone else aware that I was doing it? I felt ashamed. I needed a drink. I then started reworking my playbook along with the help of the Freshman coach and had come up with a pretty intense spread offense and the same type of stuff the HS was going to run.
Well I hope my boy gains another 100 lbs before HS and gets to be about 6-9 and can run like the wind, but until then I'll take his short stocky frame and ram those NT with it. By the way everyone that has ever watched him play says that he is the best nature blocker they have ever seen at that age. What was I thinking trying to make him into a RB...all fat kids want to run the ball i guess.
