Pretty straight forward.... Outside of football, what are things you guys do during the practice week? I remember reading "When The Game Stands Tall" on the De La Salle program and how they have team dinners and treat it like a "Tell the Truth Thursday". Anyways it got me thinking on what other programs do?

Really not much of anything. We let kids go home. I go home to my family. We don't do any meals, we don't have any study hall/tables, we don't do any of that stuff.
I kind of think kids need to be away from each other some.

We have traditional 2-a-days, practicing at 8 AM and 5 PM. In between practices players and coaches go home.

I am the O-line coach....and something that I have done the past 3 years is taken the O-line to Cici's pizza.
Basically we have some weekly goals that allow you to go to Cici's
100% attendance Winning Friday Allowing no sacks Giving up only 10 yards in Penalties 0 discipline issues in school

tues / wed: half team has study hall the other half lift. thurs. full team study hall. its before practice and only lasts a half hour.
i like this for many reasons: * not all coaches teach in the high school, so we cant start practice right after school. this fills that time well. * study hall gave me (as a HC) a little time to unwind after school and get ready for practice. or if i needed more time to finish practice materials (scripts, cards etc) I'd have it. * I'd have assistants who are in the building run it and take attendance. this way we were not surprised on the field if someone wasnt there, we'd know in study hall or weights *as a teacher, i like that it gives my kids some time to get extra help / make-up quiz /etc (we'd let them do this in place of study hall)
kids also did pasta nite on thurs. as coaches we occasionally stopped by. wasnt really a "team dinner" but most kids did go. completely organized by players and parents.

During the summer we have a few cookouts for the players with perfect weight room attendance, community service, and for the seniors.
During the season we do team and individual awards from the previous game on Thursday before our Team Dinner which is put on by the moms on the staff. On Friday's a few seniors will go down to the elementary school for a "Blue Devil Readers" program and read to the kids and promote the football program.

With my wife and 2 year old little girl....either on the golf course, even if its just riding around in the cart or we hook up the boat on the weekends, and at the lake(s). Once school/season starts, that pretty much ends the lake time..so, it's nightly trips over to the course and hang out.
When we have home frosh/JV games, they'll come out to those, too.
Fortunately, my teaching position allows for a lot of this relaxed time when I'm home. I can get a lot of football stuff done during the day, from noon on...that's about all I do (during the season it's like that).
