one of aztec's posts makes me want to see what ya'll think about goals.
how much goal setting do you do? are team goals important to you? do you set goals for yourself?
i have career goals that i would like to attain, and they are important to me. i am always looking at what i am doing to achieve these goals. what can i do better to make sure i achieve them.
as a subvarsity coach, we haven't really set statistical goals. our (my team) goals have been more subjective than anything. so it is hard to measure the results.

Our basic season goals are:
1. Win the first game 2. Win the majority of our pre-season games 3. Win League 4. Win first playoff game 5. Win the Championship
Weekly goals on Defense:
Win Hold opponent under 100 yards rushing Hold opponent under 100 yards passing 3 turn overs Give the ball to the offense in our territory 3 tackles for loss No penalties
Stuff that happens everyday all year around.
Work Hard and good things will happen Grades come before football Don't embarass the program (covers a lot) Don't ever be late Set a good example.
We do a lot day in and day out with our kids on character development and what it takes to be successful in our everyday lives. Because our head coach and myself are both track coaches as well we are around our kids year around. We have very few who play other sports so they are with us all year in the weightroom.
As a coach I have goals that are very subjective. I don't really have a measuring stick for them. The more I have coached the easier for me to see if I am getting what I want.
I expect my players to play as hard as possible all of the time (hustle) there are ways to messure hustle but I have a general eye ball aproach for practice and games. I see how players react to me and my assistants. I want kids to want to play for me and I want it to be fun. I want them to do the right things as a person. One of the ways I can messure some of this from year to year is when we have booster functions. When I get parents finding me to tell me how much fun their son is having or how much they like having me as a coach is very rewarding. It is one of the little indicators that tell me I am doing the right things. I have parents of ex-players who watch my kids and have us over on christmas eve every year (5 years after their kids graduated). I have had many ex-players come back and coach for me which is also very nice. It is the liele things that I can't messure that probably mean the most to me as a coach.
