Okay this is for all of the offensive coordinators out there. I am a very big believer in the Urban Meyer Rich Rodriguez style of spread offense where you spread the defense, and then run the football. My question is can you run a spread offense as well as some two back offense at the same time. I have seen some teams do it with soem success. I like some thigns out of the two back offense. My problem is we do not have a fullback in our program, because of our offense. So I would probably use a second TE/H-Back type player to do what a FB would do. Anyways can we do something like this where we are a spread and a two back team. or should I stick with the spread and sme one back stuff with a H-Bak. Your thoughts and opnions are greatly appreciated. Thjank you

find carryover between the packages. we utilize both 4 wide and 2 wide/2 back packages.

I have done it. Find plays that can be run out of multiple personnel groupings. Remember, you can always run your QB out of the gun with the TB as the Lead blocker for a way to accomplish a 2 RB play out of the gun (QB becomes TB, TB becomes FB).

We run the same plays out of 1 and 2 backs, under center and from the gun, we have very few specific formation type plays.

I believe you can run both 1 and 2 back sets successfully. You may want to think about personnel changes or just leaving your best players on the field.
If you do not have a true F, then you may want to use 2 Tb at the same time. I know West Virginia did this about 3 years ago w/two good Tb's.

A big reason why we run the gun option offense is because we do not have a good FB type kid. For us those kids play the OL and LB. the gun option lets us use 2 TB type kids at the same time. This year we will have 3 TB kids on the field at the same time. At the FB postion and at the slots. All 3 of these kids will rotate.

Find a way to correspond the terminology and you are golden. I plan on doing that depending on what my QB looks like from year to year.
