I go invited to a second interview at a school. The AD says it will be a group interview with a player, a parent, a coach and himself is this a normal group that would be interviewing a possible coach. Im not sure but i don't thing a player or a parent should be in the interview. Let me know what you think and if you have had any experience with this type of interview could you offer me some assistance Thanks

i recently had an interview and a player and parent were on the board. It all comes down to a popularity contest. Now-a-days, they like to listen to them to see which coach would make them happy. I just went in and told them what you see is what you get, i'm not a car salesman, i'm a teacher and coach. I don't sugar-coat things and i tell the truth. Well long story short, I did not get the job. I lost out to another player's dad. He never coached varsity football before. The admin told me the reason was that when we start the season 0-5 the other guy would accept losing better and not be so hard on himself. What a load of BS, especially when you are alumni from that high school

BE PREPARED FOR QUESTIONS FROM THE STUDENT-ATHLETE LIKE?
WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE PRACTICE FUN? WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR RECRUITING ME TO A COLLEGE?
BE PREPARED FOR QUESTIONS FORM PARENTS(BOOSTERS) LIKE?
WILL YOU BE INVOLVED IN FUNDRAISING WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE PARENTS CLUB/BOOSTERS? HOW DO YOU DISCIPLINE YOUR ATHLETES?
HOPE IT HELPS, THESE ARE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS I RECEIVED.

I would be very wary of an interview that included either students or parents.
First, to me that is a sign of an administration that is ceding some responsibility for their athletic program, or doesn't want to be accountable. Or, they are trying to placate somebody.
Second, if players and/or parents think they can hire you, they think they can fire you, too. If they can - would you want to work there?
The best districts have you interview with administrators and maybe your academic department chair.

Totally agree with blb. The school I am leaving put together a 12-14 member search committee to hire the new fb coach. There were 3 administrators, a couple of board members, and lots of parents on the committee. Their top choice told them that if the parents hire him, they will fire him. He passed on the job.
At the school that I am moving to, I was interviewed by the supt, the principal, and the AD - and no one else. What a breath of fresh air!

I agree with blb and superpower. The admin has clearly let the inmates run the assylum. You will fight an uphill battle with discipline, respect and support. It may be a no-win situation. I don't think I would ever want to work for such a weak admin. They are running a popularity contest and not searching for a strong leader. Watch-out for the first time you try to assert something unpopular.
Can you imagine a Board of Directors that lets the employees interview their prospective CEO? Can you imagine TO and his agent interviewing Bill Parcells? It's actually kind of a ridiculous scenario. I'd pass and find a better situation with a better admin(any assistant job would be better).
