I do not have much knowledge on junior colleges; I'm hoping someone can enlighten me a bit.
I have never lived in a state with juco football...as far as I know I've never had a player go on to play at the juco level. Several years ago, I looked in to it for a guy, but it did not pan out due to 1) requirements/quotas and 2) he was not really a top level recruit (NAIA/NCAA III level guy without the grades).
What states/conferences/colleges still have "out of state" limits? Last time I looked in to this (years ago) Kansas and Iowa both had a limit on the number of (players or scholarships???... don't remember) they could get from out of state.
Who has (or better- who does NOT have) these requirements?
I have a player who may be a prime juco candidate. Pretty good GPA, decent ACT, a Division I level player in my mind (I've had 7 D1 players- for a reference point), GREAT person... from a tiny school in the middle of nowhere. There may be a scholarship offer for him (we'll see in the next few months); currently several D1 schools want him to come in as a "recruited walk-on". His goal is to play D1, the money is not there to send him as a walk on.
I'm not trying to appeal to anyone, but I do think that I need to help him explore the juco option- if one could exist. Generally, if our guys do not go D1 (most do not), we have several DII and NAIA schools here, which I think is great, and not out of the question for him (I played NAIA; really enjoyed my experience).
Any insight or direction to point me toward would be much appreciated. I know his family would like him as close as possible (Nebraska), but we are open to any option.
