who do you respect as a coach?
not just x and o's but overall knowledge of the game and how they deal with kids to get the most out of them?
I know a bunch of people will answer this with names of big winners and people they know that do a lot of good, so I am not really asking about names so much, as to the WHY you respect them?

A college D coordinator I worked for for a couple of years. The program was extremely successful, and the guy was under a lot of pressure. Every week he sat down with me, a college kid, and talked over the gameplan. He would listen to my suggestions, answer my questions, and explain to me what he was thinking. One time I told him what to run at half time. He told me later he thought it would have worked, but he didn't feel comfortable and he had to do what he felt good with. I thought for sure he would have told me to keep my fricken mouth shut, but instead he encouraged me. I wouldn't be anywhere near football today if it wasn't for people like that. So many times all we talk and hear about is the guys that are putting kids down or having good sarcastic one liners to fire back at them. But the guys that I remember the most are the guys that told me that I was doing a good job or gave me a pat on the back and asked me how everything's going. Those are the guys I respect.

Amen, on the genius and stupid end, too often media and fans guage respect on wins and losses. Mainly with the media, we see a lot about the top programs in college and the NFL teams where coaches are hired and fired with regularity because of wins and losses not for what they do for the program. I respect most those coaches that are at the high school and college level that barely have above 500 records but have been there for 15 years or more. Where there contract have been renewed year after year not for their win/loss record but how they run their organization. How they treat their players and assistant coaches and how they are regarded by their players that went 0-10 not just the teams that went 10-0.
