How much time do you spend on conditioning during practice? Now I am not talking about them getting conditioning during drills, I mean just time set aside to get them in better shape. Maybe I am wrong, but I hate spending lots of time running gassers or whatever. I only spend about 7-10minutes doing either stations or gassers etc. Please let me know what you do.

We have rarely done "conditioning-only" drills in recent years. We condition all summer and those who do not attend have a week-long conditioning session at the start of the fall to make up for lost time. Once the season starts, we try to keep the regular drill time fast and energetic so they don't need extra conditioning. Former HC also wanted extensive team offense time so he ran plays up until time to release the guys (usually past, lol, glad he had to listen to the parents).

After film study and walk-throughs on Monday, we will condition hard. The Monday after our first game, we will run twenty 40s; then we increase the amount by five each week until we are running forty 40s. At that point, we decrease the amount each week by five in an effort to save their legs as we get to the later part of the season. We also spend about 10-15 minutes of conditioning every Tuesday and Wednesday at the end of practice.

Not a bunch of time. We expect them to be IN SHAPE when we begin the season.
We have a workout minimum they must meet during the spring/summer months. For those that come up short, they will do extra sessions following practices for 2 weeks.
During the season - Maintenance only Mondays - Varsity - 15 to 20 minutes of cardio Tuesdays - Team - 6-10 minutes of gassers Weds - Team - 5 minutes of short sprints Thurs - Nothing Friday - Play
We lift twice weekly during the season and EXPECT to gain 5-10% in our squats and 3-5% in our bench.
The only way you can accomplish all of the above is if your players buy in to rest/recovery and proper nutrition. We are on them (and their parents) about this all of the time.

Super's reply reminded me about our Friday schedule. We play on Thursdays so we do some light running on Fridays. Mostly to keep the kids from getting sore. We'll run for about 30 minutes max and then we'll watch the film.

I'm in Europe, and we only get maybe 5-10 kids that stick around for the summer and do conditioning/lifting. The school does not have a weight room, so lifting during the season is not an option. Therefore, I have 20 minutes during each 2-a-day practice dedicated to some type of strength/speed work. Usually 4 stations they spend 5 minutes each at. During last season I kept 10 minutes of speed/strength training in practice, but this year I'm taking it out to work more on other things with the idea that we can keep a high tempo and get some conditioning that way. We'll see, but we get very few kids that show up to the first practice in any kind of shape, even though we preach conditioning to the kids all year long. I'm usually amazed (actually "sad" is a better word) that nearly half of the kids can't make it 1 lap around the track on the first day of practice without walking.
