I do not know if this has been posted before, but I was interested to see how many coaches send out recruiting letters at the high school level. I was thinking about sending a letter to all the boys in our school and inviting them to sign up for football. I am not sure just what to put in the letter. I do not want it to long as many will not read it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Couldn't you just have an announcement about a meeting for all those interested? Then you could talk with them?
Never really considered a letter to the kids in my own school. Interesting idea. They hear announcements all the time. But a personalized letter could make them perk up maybe.

The idea behind the letter, in my opinion is it would be more personable and maybe gain more interest. When I was a head coach, I always had a meeting but I don't think you reach all the guys. You always get the same old excuse, I forgot or I didn't know. I don't know maybe a letter isn't the answer, just shooting the idea around. Trying to do what ever it takes to get more players involved.

after the season, we usually invite the feeder program kids to one of our home basketball games, give away jerseys / t-shirts / old helmets, feed them some pizza and say we hope to see them next year......
the actual "letter" should just be positive and mention the rewards of football (character development, team element, audience effect) and how they can be a part of next year's great season / tradition.

I like the idea. Just never really thought about it before. Maybe that and a letter to the parents too.??

We have a handbook that all players and parents sign at the beginning with all the rules in it , but I agree a letter to the parents as well is a good idea. Maybe we can get some insight from the board on what should be included in the letters.

If anyone has a letter that they could download on to the forms section that would be great.

We go out to our 4 feeder schools and speak to the kids about high school football. We give them paperwork and all of our important dates for the summer. We talk about the weightroom, passing leagues, and camps. As far as a letter, it would have to be worded very carefully, there was a school a few years back that got in trouble for "recruiting" junior high kids.
