Just read in the paper where a high school in Montana won a softball game a few days ago by the score of 45-0!
We've talked on here about when is it too much in football, don't know how you'd "take a knee" in softball but 45 does seem a bit extreme though they scored on 24 hits and 17 errors in a 5 inning game.
Any thoughts on how our discussion carries over? Should the game have been ended earlier? Unbelievable score.

federation rules state: 15 after 3, 10 after 5

I guess they could've scored the 45 runs in two innings, before the mercy rule kicks in. All you can do in softball I guess is not steal bases, not stretch for the extra base on longer hits, stuff like that. If the losing team had 17 errors it seems like they weren't even making the simple plays to get out of trouble. If the winning team put most or all of the subs in and weren't doing the things I mentioned above I wouldn't hold the score against them. That's as close to "taking a knee" as you can get in softball.

Went to my a H.S. boys soccer game and the final was 14-0.
The winning coach played his kids out of position after the score was 4-0. Forwards were playing defense. Midfielders were taking turns at Goalie.
Whenever one of his players got a goal or an assist he sat them.
He had 4-5 players on the bench, so they cycled through pretty quickly.
It could have been 25 to 0 but I think this action by the HC helped keep the score down.
We could hear the fans on the other side saying that he (the HC) was showboating. Wow!?
About the only other thing he could have done was played his JV but they had already played earlier.

I coached a girls basketball team a few years ago for one game. I was just filling in for the normal coach. The team only had 6 girls (5 really tall, athletic girls and one tiny girl) but were unbelievably good. We were trouncing the other team by 50 or 60. Apparently, these girls had been in this situation before because they just kept giving the ball to the little white girl on the team. They would box out the other team, set picks, everything you could imagine to let the little girl score. When she finally did, they sort of just held the ball till the game was over.
I normally get mad if someone legitimately runs the score up, but sometimes when you are that much better you usually can't help it. I think there should be some sort of mercy-rule. But, then again I hated getting pulled because we were winning by a ton. I think I played about 1/2 of what normal high school kids played because our teams were so good.

there is only so much you can do to keep kids from running up the score on each other. if your in a football game and get up on the other team by 35 in the 1st quarter are you gonna quit? probably not, kids need to learn to win as well as lose or get smashed on, no matter the sex or sport. now if the same team gets pounded on year after year then something needs to be done about the coaching.

When the game is definitely over score-wise we always get our starters out. A few years back we had an outstanding RB who tore up the league. He would quite often play maybe 2 quarters and still rushed for 1900 yards in 8 games.
We were also on the other end when we played in a 12-man league quite a few yeares ago. Our program was in trouble with numbers and we went into a game with 18 kids against the powerhouse of the league. They could have easily put up 100 points against us but when they hit the 30 they would try for a field goal, even on 1st down. They played all of their backups and didn't kill our kids.
