This is a question for you AD types out there: How many of you follow up with candidates that dont make the cut? The reason I ask is that I have had far more non-contacts than I have contacts during my coaching search. I just think it is common courtesy to contact the people to say "thanks, but we going with the other guy". Maybe it is just me, but I find this attitude disturbing at best.
What say you?

2 years ago, make final 2 for head job and find out via email that they offer it to the other coach. not impressed. What got me was we were there 3x for interviews and you kind of get to know the people involved.

There should always be a follow up contact.
I've been in your shoes and went through a process only to find out nothing.
Just be glad that they didn't offer you the job and go from there. You may have dodged a bullet.
If you are ever an AD or head coach, at least now you know to not do that to somebody.
Very classless in my opinion.
Good luck to you.

Have been there a few times. Have even been told they'd contact me no matter what, even after I requested they do so. Guys are afraid to call, expecting a confrontation. I'd rather have the call, find out what I could have done better and move on. There's always someone better suited for that situation, tell me and the sun comes up tomorrow.

Had an interview last year. The principal skipped the next interview to give me a tour and talk with me one on one. Half way through the interview they stopped so" if "you get the job and started saying "when". Never heard from them, no letter or email. Had another princiapl tell me that I needed to start looking into moving to his area. He told me "I'll be getting back in touch with you soon". Never contacted me again. My wife and I now call the rejection letter, "the you suck letter".

I interviewed for a head coaching job at the school where my wife worked. I did my student teaching at the school many years ago. My wife has worked there a long time and I have gotten to know everyone there very well. I even worked with the AD at a summer job for about 5 years. After the second interview the AD takes me on a "tour" of the school. Since I had been at the school countless times with my wife, we spent the time talking about "when" I get the job. When I left that day I believed that it was just a formality of getting everything approved by the principal and Supt. Well a week goes by and I see that the position has been reposted. I didn't get a call, letter or email. The worst part is that I know the AD pretty well. Needless to say, we haven't talked much since. I am a head coach now in a very good situation. Sometimes I think that the AD was actually helping me out. That school had only won 2 games in the last four years. Everything happens for a reason. At the time I was pretty mad, now I am very thankful I didn't get the job.

We always talk directly to the people that we interviewed and mail a letter to all of those that applied.

Typical of any business. People don't like to deliver bad news. And what gunslinger describes are commonly referred to as FOAD letters. (F off And Die) that some companies use including mine

I thought I was in a bad situation last year, and I interviewed for another Head Job in another County. I felt like the interview went really well, and I had heard from other coaches in the county that I was the front-runner for the job. Not sure how they heard, but they wanted to talk about being my assistant at the new school. The principal at the new school had even asked if we could hold on to my materials (Coaching Plan and Time Tables) until I come back to start. Well, A couple of days later the job was reposted. I called back to the New school to get my materials back, and I never heard from them again. Moral of the story: Never leave your materials with anyone!
My bad situation went 10-2 and Lost by 1 in the 2nd Round of the State Playoffs! I almost missed it.
