Recently I talked to a college coach who said something interesting. He said that many, if not most, NFL teams run most of their running plays to one side only. For example, they might run Power exclusively to the right, and Counter to the left. The reason is that they have to work so hard on pass pro that they have limited time to work the run game. Doing it that way gives them enough reps to ge good at it. Has anyone else heard this?

I have noticed that. I am a big Chiefs fan and for years they have run predominantly to the left side. I am guessing that had as much to do with having Brian WAters and Willie Roaf on the left side as it did putting in a certain number of reps.

I've seen the same as coachf, but in Seattle. Shawn Alexander running the ball towards Walter Jones and Steven Hutchinson to the leftside up until last season when Hutch left for Minnesota. The 'Hawks were more balanced (but less productive) running R and L after Hutch left.
I've noticed in the NFL it is more about matchups than R and L tendencies.
Pass pro is a premium at that level, so that makes sense.

I agree to those who say it's all about matchups. That's all football is at that level because everyone is just so big and fast. I'm a big Bears fan out here in Ohio with Sunday Ticket and when Sexy Rexy isn't throwing INT's we do tend to run to the weaker Dlineman not so much a certain side I've noticed.

I heard that too phantom; I've noticed it in a lot of games too.

My thought is...
With zone concepts, it doesn't really matter which way you start the run... because it can finish to either side.
Which is why I think the zone has caught on like wild fire in the pro's... you have the best linemen, the best backs, at most 4 man fronts, many times only 3... besides your goalline offense, it really doesn't matter where the play is intended to go.
IMHO
