Same here in Arizona...We can usuallu agree to wear some cargo or docker style shorts for our games that are early in the season, then as it cools down somewhat, we go to pants.

apparently it is "professional" to wear pants when it is really hot
when i was in law school, that's what i figured suits and ties were good for
if you can sweat your ass off in them, then you must be important

Classic, I am glad that we are able to agree, I wonder how it is elsewhere?

i always thought coaches wore shorts
i would expect them to wear shorts at a game
especially if it was hot as crap

Agreed. I have always known coaches to wear shorts, but like I said we usually change to pants towards the end of the season..

We were docker shorts for our early games and as the season goes on we will were docker pants. If the snow starts to fly then we were black wind pants.

Our league, LEAGUE mind you, requires long pants of all coaches during games. At least they dont make us wear ties like they do the basketball coaches. I would probably look the a choked tomato by the time the game was over. Bad enough they wanted to me to wear an Orange Polo this last year. I'm 300 pounds for god's sake. I can hear the "great Pumpkin" jokes from the stands, lemme tell you.

We are really in a different world out here… I wear a black coaches shirt (over one of my many Harley Davidson T- shirts) and jeans. Most of my coaches wear about the same thing… one guy wears slacks (young guy… played for me in 96), one guy wears coveralls when it is cold (Farmer Fran is on our staff).

We're in South Carolina, where we get some extremely hot and humid nights in late August and through September. We still wear long pants, light khaki Dockers, despite the heat. I've never asked the head guy, a former Division 1 head coach, but I'm sure he'd say that he feels wearing long pants is more professional than wearing shorts on game night. A few of the coaches of our opponents wear "dressy" khaki shorts until the weather becomes more temperate. To each his own...we don't let our players wear shorts during the game, either ;D

GREAT ONE.....I'm with you - mesh shirt / dockers. First three games were up in the 90's, the last three were in the 50-60's. I'm in the booth, so it doesn't matter, but I now wear a Team pullover. The boosters went out and outfitted us with new jackets this season - kinda nice! They also asked if they could purchase our pants (for a uniformed look) - some of the coaches didn't want to because you could either get the wrong 'kind' and/or be difficult to fit some of our coaches.

Bill Belichick wears a hooded sweatshirt, so I don't think fashion is that big of a deal.

I coached in ND one year and in the playoffs the 2nd week of November I was wearing my Camo hunting parka and insulated bibs, Tuuk (thats that funny winter that northerners wear), ice fishing boots, hand warmers in my mittens, and still froze my arse off in negative 10 degree wind chills during a mild blizzard. So I don't mind wearing my dockers and polo on those stuffy Early Sept. Texas nights.

i think i would rather freeze than get hot
when you get hot, there is nothing you can do
when you are cold
put some more stuff on and run around

That Barney affect you mentioned from all the clothes takes its toll too. I take off running after a ref to work on him after a bad call, I trip in my boots and splattered on the side line. Watching that one on film was a definte team building moment.

by now, I am wearing a School pullover and starter pants with sneakers....(40 - 50 degrees)
We have a staff across town that traditionally wears......black shorts, no socks, and black shoes....irregardless of the weather. It's been sleeting out and they are in black shorts on the sidelines. Of course, I make fun of them, but last year they surpassed our record for state titles, so I really don't have anything to say now.
