Guys, I heard alot of you mention that in an interview, you should be prepared with a 5 year plan. How detailed should this be? Any suggestions

I think you you should try and be as detailed as possible while being realistic and realizing that unexpected things will occur. But the more detailed the plan more it will enable to you adapt and overcome unseen obstacles easier than only planning for 'this season" so to speak. Hope this helps alittle anyway.

Immediate goals > how you plan to get there > the benefits of these immediate goals realized Long-Term goals > how you plan to get there> the benefits of these long-term goals realized

that's funny knighter...i used that line today in my final round interview for our HC position. AD asked where I plan to be in 5 yrs (knowing that i justed moved here from Oregon this last summer to teach) and I said exactly that.... to be employed by you. I hope it worked because I was very sincere about it..i plan on getting this job and holding it until my 8th grader gets through HS then I might consider leaving.

I never understood that "where do you see yourself in 5 years" question...I always say "right here"....

I nswer that questin by saying 'I don't know what tommorow holds. I have plan for being here in 5 years, but if tommorow Joe Paterno calls and asks me to be an assistant I am taking that job. Right now I am so excited about being in this room and interviewing for this job, my only thought is how to help ____ H.S. succeed. But, you never know what tommorow holds."

I like what John McKay said about five year plans:" I had a five year plan because I had a five year contract, if I had a six year contract I'd have had a six year plan."

Careful, sls .... sounds like you are saying "this is the best offer I have had lately, but as soon as something better comes along I won't let the door hit me on the way out ..."
