This website is great - i pick up some I can use every time I come on here. What is a new thing you have done that has benefitted your program this year?
I stole mine from when I went to a University of Nebraska game last fall. We have a veteran and his family introduced between the the first and second quarter of the game. A brief introduction is given. This year we had four home games and were able to introduce a veteran from the Korean War and his family including a son who played for me in the 80's and a daughter who is our business teacher, second week our school janitor and his family - he served in the 80's and 90's in the air force. week three a father and son (son was our filmer in the 80's) - Father was purple heart in vietnam and son was air force in the 90's. and then last time a family of veterans - see example below.
The crowd is very respectful and it is neat to include the visiting team in announcement.
"If you would direct your attention to the 30 yard line on the track. This year we are recognizing our military veterans and their families at the home football games.
Glyn Rollins, is a retired veteran of the Navy and Air Force serving in Korea and Vietnam. Glyn served in the Navy from August 1950 to August 1954 on the Light Carrier USS Bataan and in the United States Air Force from October of 1956 until February of 1973.
Three of Glyn’s sons also served in the military.
David Rollins attended Windsor Elementary, served in the United States Army from 1982 to 1984 with the 1st Brigade 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Sergeant First Class Ron Rollins, currently living in Bournemouth England and a 1982 WHS graduate, is retired from the United State Army serving from February 1986 to July 2006. Ron is a Desert Storm Combat Veteran and a former Army Recruiter. Ron concluded his Army career as an Attaché at Embassies in Lithuania, Angola , and Latvia.
Rick Rollins, a 1985 WHS graduate, served in the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1990 achieving the rank of sergeant with the 28th Strategic Bomb Wing Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota in support of the B-1B Lancer.
At this time we would like the veterans from Western High and Springfield High to please stand. Please give these men and women a round of applause for all they have done for our country."
