Coaches I have a question for you
Something our staff has been discussing is how much contact is necessary during 2-a-days. Camp is a grind as it is already so my question to you all is
How much contact (i.e. team session live) do you think your team needs during 2-a-days to be successful? What is your philosophy and why?
I am interested in hearing your answers thanks !

We will do full pads for both practices but the morning will have more contact and conditioning and the afternoon will be lighter. We will still have contact and conditioning but won't be as much. The first 3 days in Missouri cannot be full contact anyway. Toward the end we kind of play it by the way the kids are, I'd they are banged up we will have less full contact.

In NY we can't have full contact until the 6th day. I progressively add more contact for that following week with our scrimmage on day 12.

We only do a live team period in the first session. Our 2nd session is shorter & in shells. We have found the second session is more productive this way even though we hit less and go shorter.

Once we get pads on we go full contact, "live" in Team every other day.
Other practices are "Thud."
This gives us a total of two practices, an Intrasquad Scrimmage ("Meet Your Team" Day) and an outside scrimmage before first game week.
That period is from Thursday of first week through Thursday of second week.

We go full-team full speed once during the week, but we usually mix in one full speed blocking and tackling drill each day also. Everything else is thud tempo, guys get tackled to the ground every now and then but it's a pretty quick whistle.
After 2 a days we have one full speed, full team period each week, the full speed tackling drills are scrapped after that first week.

We have gotten rid of two a days for our program....we practice four days a week all summer...so when august comes...we will only do 2.5 hr to 3 hr practice in the morning...no need to kill our legs
