What do coaches look for in deciding who to start at QB when both players are equal in passing and running the football?

Right now I've got a starter who throws well and runs ok but he plays like he's scared! I hired a new QB coach and he's doing a good job but this kid has got to grow up! Our backup is a 5'7 freshman who is still a year away from being ready.

Cutty,
The kids will give you the answer. Alternate your QB's for the first half of camp, etc., and in time watch the body language of the offensive unit and it will show you who they have faith in move the chains, lead, etc..
This is similar to putting a pitcher on the mound who the players don't have faith in.
The players will gravitate to one of the QBs.

How hard did each of them lift? Who was on time more often? Who is a better student? Who shows more respect to their teachers?
At our place it's called, "Everything you do". Everything the player does is factored into playing time and/or string decisions.

If everything else is equal........ Who makes the rest of the kids in the huddle feel more confident?
