Do you know any high schools that provide protective knee braces for their lineman?
You see them at most college levels? Anyone see them in high school.
We had a really talented starter, only a sophomore, get rolled up in the mix and tore his ACL. Out for the year. The feedback he is getting is that one a protective brace might have prevented the severity of the injury.
We discussed having our Boosters contribute $8K next year and then raise $3k to $4k per year to get our OL fitted with protective prophylactic knee braces .
Any feedback or sources or info would be great. The only one's Ive seen on line are from djortho.

This season I've recently placed all starting O and D lineman as well as the 2's that rotate frequently in protective braces. Almost lost a 2 way starter on a Friday night had my trainer price them, told my AD what the cost would be and we ordered them- had them for the next game. Working out some issues in keeping them in place- some kids have them slide down the leg so we'll do some experimenting as to what works best but we'll continue to use them. We cannot afford to lose a kid- period so we'll do everything we can to protect them.

Are you using the expensive orthopedic braces ($800 a pair) or more off the shelf brand like McDavid ($200) a pair?

I have a box full of the McDavid's and they are older but hardly used, if anyone is interested PM me and I am willing to sell them at a very cheap price and the cost of shipping.

I believe we are using Stromgens- our trainer worked through her supplier to get them. We had originally considered getting the McDavids but we were told the Stromgens held up a bit better. We got 8 pair for a bit over $800 (that included the cost to overnight them to us)- If it saves one kid from even a minor strain I think it's money well spent.
