How do the powers that be determine eligibility in your state? Tell us what state it is.
How can the kids earn it back?

In Ohio its a school to school thing. Where I attended high school you had to maintain a 2.0 GPA in order to stay eligible. Thats a C average.

In Arizona it varies from school to school. If I am not mistaken, the Arizona Interscholastic Association sets a rule that you can't have an F during grade check, or if you do, you must have an A to make it a wash. But most schools take it up a notch, at our school, you can't have an F at any time and you must have a 2.0 GPA. There are grade checks every 3 weeks for us. Some schools have them every 2 weeks.

I'm in California (SF BAY AREA). This is not the same for all Cali. HS. Student needs a 2.0 going into the football season. If he has under a 2.0 he is put on academic probation, until the 6 week grading period( which is week 5 of our season). If his GPA is still under a 2.0 after the 6 week grading period; he is ineligible and can't play anymore. Keep in mind, if he is under a 2.0 for the Winter and Spring Semester; he will be ineligible for the first 6 weeks of the fall Semester, until he improves his GPA to a 2.0 or better. If he improves to a 2.0 GPA, he can play the remainder of the season, which would be 4 games. Oh... there is a week lay over... All incoming Freshman in our district are deemed academically ineligible. It's {censored}... but I guess the AD's don't want to check there 8th grade-grades. To much work for them...I guess... Hope this gives you an idea...

Iowa is moving toward a "no pass, no play" policy in which students receiving a failing grade at a grade check would be ineligible for 20 days.

Man.. we work off of the previous term.. If you have less than a 1.5 during the fall.. you cannot play spring sports.. if you do not make atleast a 1.5 during the spring then you cannot play fall sports. We just would not make it with 2.0 cut-off.. but then again.. we have some special ed kids also playing..

I wish, it was like that here, 1.5 GPA, I would have 50 kids on my Varsity Squad every year, instead of 35. What State Thurman???
