I assume "bingo" is just a natural progression of a "HOT WORD".....**** I like the 'bingo' because it's simple and direct (of course we don't use it at our program).
I have NO CLUE what the heck Oskie means
**** How do you get an eighty year old woman to yell "F----!"?
Get another eighty year old lady to say "Bingo"....

I remember reading that "Oskie" was the name of General Robert Neyland's dog. early in his career at Tennessee he had this bird dog named "Oskie" that would catch 'em right out of the air after being shot. So the story (legend) goes... Whether or not it is true, I quiz my players on stuff like that... they need to know there were coaches before Spurrier and players before Randy Moss (like Johnny Blood...my kind of player/coach).

"Bingo" is merely a word we use to alert the entire defense that we have the ball and we now need to start looking for off color jerseys to block so we can return the INT. The player making the INT hollers "BINGO" and we are off to the races hopefully. This has been a practice of ours since I was a player back in the mid 60's. Our kids now refer to INT's as Bingos.

Oskie is the name of the mascot at Cal Berkeley, it's even in the school fight song. The football team started to use it as an interception call long ago.
As for Bingo...long ago I used to coach and teach at a Catholic school, so it just seemd to fit right in.

During practice last year had a LB make an interception and run it in for a touchdown singing at the top of his lungs "And Bingo was his Name-o!"

I bet you and your QB were glad he didn't do the kindergarten dance that goes with it in the end zone.
