Which would you choose? An average athlete who is a pretty good QB, or a great athlete who doesn't have the best QB skills?
Can you teach a great athlete to be a great QB?

I would rather have the Good QB play QB, and put the Great Athlete at RB/WR. This way the good QB can get the ball to your great athlete.

I guess it really depends on what kind of offense you run.
For me, spread gun veer jet bunch (easy throws) I want the stud at QB

i want the best athlete, who can throw, at qb. for us he is a rb and a qb.
in a perfect world he is gonna throw 25-30 times and run 10-15 times. so he is involved in 40 or so plays (not including getting the snap and handing off) so he better be the stud duck on the team.

Since we are a split veer team, I will take the guy who can run the offense, regardless of athletic talent. Obviosuly we would want someone skilled in both, but with the split veer you need a "smart" kid.

The best athlete who can deliver the ball to our other athletes. If he's not a good runner, but he's still a good passer and a respected leader (THE most important trait) then he is our QB. I don't care if we can't run him all the time like most teams nowadays try to do.

In our offense (option), I think it's better to have a good QB than a great athlete. Ideally, it'd be nice to have both, but a QB who will do their job, even without the great athletic ability, can still be very successful, while a QB with great talent but who can't read/doesn't understand the offense as well will struggle.

There are a million GREAT athletes who couldn't play QB, but how many GREAT QB's couldn't play an athlete position? I'll take the kid who is Smarter, Gutzy, and a better Leader over a pure athlete any day of the week.
That is why 90% of skill players at the D1 level, played QB in high school.
