Coaches, do you know if there's any scholarships for students who want to go into the field of coaching?
Also, what is one of the schools you would recommend to go to for coaching? Since I have to be certified as a teacher, I will probably go into a field of history.

I have enough money to go through a year of college. However, I still need some more that will be able to cover for the remaining three years.
I've seen all types of scholarships for engineers, doctors, law enforcement, military, and etc. I was wondering if there was a specific scholarship for students that wanted to become coaches?

There may be. You know what I would do if I was you. Go to the AFCA convention and stand there with a sign explaining the situation and asking for either
1. donations (straight up money) 2. scholarships to come and work as a student assistant for a college
the second one would mean you would have to be willing to go just about anywhere that offered you a shot.
At worst, you would meet a bunch of coaches that can help you down the line.

Four of my friends and me, filled the coolers with ice, cleaned the equiptment. opened the boxes of powerade, filled the cups of water, went station to station taken care of the players and also getting some players that overslept on practice. Easiest $50 I ever made. In this process over three days I learned some fundamentals, had three great meals a day, Powerade and best of all seeing college girls as well as h.s. girls for various events at Stephen F. Austin.

I too was wondering about scholarships for coaching. I'm currently attending college, and could always use extra help. Like someone mentioned, look into teacher scholarships. There's quite a few around. Most are national, but check your local school district, as mine had a smaller scholarship available for students entering education. I was thinking about attending one of the clinics in Minneapolis in the spring, but I don't think I've got it in me to "beg" If anyone finds something that would help, let me know. I'd appreciate it.

I think I'm a decent student?
Does making B's in Calculus count?

I think I'm a decent student? Does making B's in Calculus count? I tested out of math. but from what I've heard, a B is pretty darn good. Keep it up and you'll find scholarships. Tuition here is about $4600 a year. We are paying about $300 cash a semester. I got a $1500 grant and a scholarship for my high ACT/GPA scores. The rest is taken care of for now by a federal loan. The point is, you'll find a way to pay for college. Sometimes looking for scholarships, grants, and loans is harder than the coursework itself

it is part of the coursework
jumping through hoops in college teaches you about jumping through hoops later on in real life

Fort,
Get a hold of Mike Berg the head football coach at GF Central High School. See if he has any lower level assistant jobs open for you. He is a good guy and would be a great guy to learn from. If he does not have any opening, I'm sure he would help you find something in the area.

He was my HS coach He is definately a great guy and I plan on getting in touch with him about the subject in the near future. I talked briefly with him after the state championship, but I keep meaning to stop by. My old middle school was a bit short on assisstants this past season, so I'm thinking of looking into helping out there. I think it'd be a good place to start, as I doubt a college sophomore (next year) would be very welcome at a HS without any real prior coahcing experience. I'd definately look in to it though.

North Carolina has a program going through the legislature as we speak that will help with tuition at a state supported school for a guarantee of coaching for a certain number of years...Sort of like Teaching Fellows...Don't know much about it though only the tidbits that have shot through our association.
