I would like to incorporate a good option series out of the pro-I. Something easy to teach and learn.
What would be a solid option package to run: Veer, Speed or Mid-line...etc..? if possible could you please draw it up? and explain blocking scheme?THX...

We don't have anything in terms of option. We run the pro, but I was hoping we good implement it because our QB this year is a lot more athletic then in years past.
What kept me from running it in the past was the time it takes to perfect the mesh, reads and pitch. I felt it would take time away from or other plays...

What kind of pro? Zone, rule, what?
That determines zone dive option
or midline.
Could probably do both, but if you can keep the adds as streamlined with what you already do it will work better probably

 We take advantage of the "D" by using angles. We have rules when in comes to certain plays: Belly, Power etc...and plays that go wide: toss,sweep etc... we zone it. The play above was an option play the former HC use to run. No detail on blocking though....Sorry, I forgot to crop it... |

We run a spread option offense and the easiest read option to run is midline. The read is easier and since we usually run it as a double option there is no pitch read. The inside triple is the hardest one we run(also our bread and butter) and unless you are committed to all that practice time I wouldnt suggest running it.
The speed option is easy to install.

I have posted this on the running game board. You should really look at Coach Campbell's Option On Me system. ISV, Midline, and Load Option. Run the option by reading the Outside Inverts. His power point CD on the system is great. His videos are also good.

Don't the the specifics on who has who jman. Like I said, this was an option play the previous head coach ran. I found it drawn up in or team room when I was cleaning up the place over the X-mas Vacation.

Do you want to run a true triple option, load, or speed option? I think you need to figure this out...so you don't cause yourself any more headaches! Speed is the easiest to run b/c you can double team the "man who has pitch". The hardest block for any player to make is in the open field, especially since you can't even slide down to the legs anymore (at least in pa)

Get Coach Campbell's option manual and videos OR Tony DeMeo's option materials. Those materials are very helpful.

On the mid-line "backfoot clear step," would that be the BS foot stepping back so the QB can mesh. Also, how far back is that step?

Yes, on the play above to the left he begins with his right foot taking a clear step (lateral step and slightly rearward) to the right of about 12 inches and back about 6 inches, pivoting on his right foot, allowing his left foot to swing back opening up in a 180 degree fashion he will now be facing the sidline with the ball extended back to the FB and looking at the 3 tech. He will mesh and ride/decide, this is a fluid motion all happening at once. The reason for the 12/6 step is to clear the feet of the OL and to provide room for the QB's arms to extend.

Coach Inside Belly (A & C Gaps) as well as Midline Belly or DD (A & B) Gaps can be ran as well.

Coach,
If you already run belly then belly option would be a good start. You could continue with 2 other dbl options midline, freeze, and speed/zone. If you want to run the triple then play on spending 20 mins. a day on your option package. That may be more then you want to invest. If so then just focus on the dbl's.
