Coaches, is it the right thing to do to have solid references call the school/AD to make positive comments about you as the applicant when applying for a job? -Steve

Influence from 'friends' couldn't hurt Unless they had contacts with the AD / DAD already....that sounds kind of pushy.

I know in the world of college football jobs that making a call for somebody is common place.

There is nothing worng with having your references call for you. Who knows whether or not the AD will actually call your references. You want the job, you leave no stone unturned in getting the job.
It might be pushy, but you're talking about competitive football. Who wants some mealy mouthed, shy head football coach who's afraid to go out and get the job done...and getting it done starts with getting the job.
