Just watched Building a Championship Football Program 12 Months a Year By: Rush Propst on the Glazier site. He practiced at 7am - 7:45 on Thursdays - no afternoon practice or meetings - players and coaches told to go home. Anyone else do this? Pros and Cons? Also, practice/meeting/films with kids on Sunday afternoon 3pm. We did this at the college level -no Monday practice - and loved it.

In college we practiced Sunday and had monday's off. It's always good, physically for the players to run a round a bit the day after a game. Here at HS we practice saturdays after agame and have sunday off.
About the short thrusday morning practice, it's all about what works for your team. For some it would be a disatser, for others it would be beneficial.

I know of very small schools who have Monday AM practice b/c thier conference plays JV/SOPH/FR games on Monday after school and 1/2 the players and coaches are at the game. It works for them.

Cant meet with kids on Sunday in CA. The Thursday morning practice is interesting though.

I think this is a pretty good idea. Mentally, it would be like a day off for the kids...keep the fresh before the game. On the down side, it is a change in routine...and gives the kids an extra cpl of hours to screw around and do something stupid (as is the nature of a 17 year old)

I have done thursday morning practices for about 4 years now and the kids love it. They get to gome home when school is out. We as coahes use this time to finish painting the field or make final preperations for the game. The only drawback is when it gets cold. Got to be prepared for that.

There is a school in our area that does Thurs morning. They are very competitive with an established program.....i.e. their kids know what they're doing.
Also have a powerhouse program in the area that practices on Thursday nights, under the lights.
