well, since we are talking okie football
how would you guys compare it to Texas HS football? Or other states around OK?

Post by pegleg on Dec 26, 2005 17:05:09 GMT -6
tog
its really comparable to texas. great coaces and athletes. also community passion is every bit as high as texas. the problem is money. ok doesn't have the tax base to raise enough money to support football the way texas does. there are more people in dfw than in the whole state of ok. most hc in ok have to teach and they make the same money that everyone else makes, just a slightly high stipend. also, most districts, even the small ones have a seperate ad, so tat can cause some problems. anyway, i know that a ton of coaches would stay in ok if they could get the money on par with tx, myself included. that is really the only difference imho.

Well I dont really know that much about Texas football. I do know this and it is probably the same way there as it is here, if you dont win you dont stay. We Okies love our football thats for sure. I think Pegleg might be the resident officianado about this being that he is from Oklahoma and Now coahes in Texas!!

I have to agree with pegleg. . . MONEY (LACK OF), Facilities, not very many places will allow you to bring in a staff and not all HC's are the AD which sometimes puts Football behind Basketball or Baseball even though it is the money maker.

that is something i just don't get still
how does an AD that is on a HFC's staff do that?
there seems to be conflict of interests and chain of command issues

Not all AD's in Oklahoma coach Football and some do not coach at all.

From Claremore, here.
pegleg hit the difference right on the nose.
I was a 2A HC and the baseball coach was the AD. He was my freshman Fb coach as well. He also thought he knew more about FB than I did...told me you couldn't throw the ball and be successful at the 2A level, etc. He finally fired me when the FB program was more successful than the Baseball program.
