I know it's kind of early, but I'm curious to know, how you coaches approach your spring practices?
What is your format? Do you work on the basics or do you pick up right where you left off, the following year...

the actual practice format (# of periods, schedule - ind, group, team) is pretty much the same as the fall. may spend more time in the indy & group sessions than in team, especially in early part (1st week).
we work: base schemes & procedures look at new wrinkles in their base form (if any) look at pesonnel changes (if any)
focus is on getting the base schemes taught & repped well. don't get caught up in the advanced parts of the schemes (complimentary plays, tags, etc.) unless we have mastery. we want to establish a "base line" within our offense during the spring. build the foundation then be ready to hit it quickly in 2-a-days and begin to build on our base within a short amount of time once entering the fall.

To me Spring Practice is a chance to teach the basics and try new things.
We go Blue & White at the school I'm at, basically break them into 2 teams and when one is on offense the other is on defense.

It must be nice to work in a state that allows full blown spring ball, but what we have is not bad. We can take up to 21 players out for skill development, an unlimited number of days in the spring and summer, w/ no body to body contact. This pretty much eliminates the "team" period. So the skill guys will go out a couple of days a week and work on fundy's and do some 7 on 7 skelly. With the big boys, we used to go out a couple of tims a week like the skill guys, but we were always in competition for players (LB's who play OL, TE's etc.) So I think this year we are going to take the month of May, and make it Hog Heaven -4 workouts a week for the whole month. We will mainly work fundys, but also will be working some to put in inside and outside zone schemes. We want to do this late in the spring, to carry it over and want the kids to retain what they learned, into the summer and fall.
