What percentage of your players play other sports in the winter and spring seasons? How does that effect what you do in off season training? For those that have spring football do athletes that play baseball or run track still participate?

70% of our athletes play basketball, wrestle, (nearly all are out for ) track, baseball, soccer...etc.
Affects off season stuff dramatically because it is clear that the other sports do not put an emphasis / feel comfortable in the weight room. Consequently, we have the smallest team in the conference and ended with a 3-6 record.

We lift weights three days a week year round. In season and out of season for every sport. Our football players do agility and other things on the two off days and our b-baller, baseball players, or track runners pratice on the other two days

We spoke with administration and created an elective sports training class. There are two different time slots and we try and place all football players in one of the classes. Players can still lift during the week even though they are participating in another sport. We do not require them to lift if they have a game or match that day. We have seen significant improvements in overall team strength since this class was created.

You guys are lucky you have an administration and coaches in the other sports (mainly Basketball) that support weight lifting class. We have a Basketball coach who believes that lifting weights makes kids stiff as well as lose there shooting touch!!! Can you believe how many people believe that stone aged thinking? He is an excellent basketball coach too, he is just stuck in his ways and I don't think anything will change his mind.

Bigger Stronger Faster…multiple sports weight training that build ATHLETES not just strong kids!
We have had some of the same problems that many of you have had. A basketball coach that does not believe in weight training, even when he gets out muscled under the boards every night; A soccer coach (yes I said it) that refuses to make his kids lift, probably the reason they went form first to worst. However there are some coaches in the school that do support the idea of weight lifting but do not encourage the players to get in and lift. Because of this we hosted a BFS clinic for our student athletes and coaches in hopes of rejuvenation a dead weights program, the old FB coaches let it slide. This really worked well for our football players and we were able to get them into our Athletic conditioning class. The other sports also grasped the idea for a while but they do to stress the importance of Weights enough to keep the students working out. We have however encouraged all incoming freshmen to take Athletic conditioning in their second semesters, because of pre requisites, and have had a great turn out. The group of kids that were not so talented last year has taken starting positions from kids that were more talented but lazy… we hope this will light a fire under some of the talented students.
To late to keep it short so I will end with… You need to put what pressure on your AD and Coaches to hire candidates that have the ability to work and supervise a weight room!
