I have seen alot of different ways to run the wing t on this board. I see offensives that use words like Sweep and Down, then I see the Traditional 21 or 82. And then I see a combination of both. What do some of you feel is the benefit of your system?
Part of me just wants to use words and then another part of me wants to use the number system.
I also know some coaches use the number system where you tell which back is getting the ball and what hole to run and then they add the word at the end. I would just use the word?

I don't run the wing-T and this is just from memory from when I ran it as a QB in HS, but we used 3 digits eg. 182 Down. One number decribed the series which included the motion one number was the back and one was the hole. The word was the blocking scheme (down, GT, Sweep ect..). The one thing I remember, but not sure if alot of Wing-T teams do this, is our hole numbering started from the right and went to the left. Not like the Right are evens, Left are Odds that i'm used to.

What do some of you feel is the benefit of your system? Coach: I can install "Belly" and "Down", or I can refer to "187" or "Red 82", or I can do both; I know what I mean, and I can communicate what I mean clearly and easily to my players. Where the classic Delaware Wing-T terminology comes in handy (and BTW, it's actually Michigan Single Wing terminology from the Fritz Crisler era) is when I am discussing Wing-T on boards like this with fellow "Kool-Aid drinkers"... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

We do not use the traditional numbering in our wing-t system. We still have a number system but it is diffrent than the trad. numbering. We place the wing with a wing rt/wing lt the the first number places the tight end, second number is the back, third is the hole then we tag it. So a call for us would be Wing rt 234 power.
Works well the kids get it. We still run all the series and all so I don't think it matters how you call it as long as you are runing the series and plays.

I know of schools that run the wing T and they simply eliminated the numbers all together. They started with the 3 digit system i.e. 182 Down, but now they simply say 100 down right or red cross block left. It doesn't seem any less or more, but what ever floats your boat

You need to search around all of these free files out there and find Coach Thurman's Wing-T Install presentation. Its pretty good. I will see if he still has a copy anywhere, but I am pretty sure he doesnt. But I know I have seen it out on the net a few times.
It goes into the Delaware system and how and why things are called what they are.

I can still recall the Permian version. Those playbooks must have spread like wildfire bc I have been at other schools that used the same terminology.
18 39 Pitch 32 Lead 43 16 Counter 36 236 A Dunk Boot @ 9 Waggle & 8 233 Pass 60 Game 30 Trap 8 Sweep
